Tools and Hardware Reviews of Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat

Customer Review: Very quiet but not as effective as it could be.
Summary: 3 Stars

This unit is fine for a very small area. It is extremely quiet, as other reviewers have noted.

I got this for my small basement. (800 sq ft). According to all of the references that I had looked at, a 20 pint capacity dehumidifier should have been perfect for that size area. Well, after bringing it in, turning it on, and leaving it, the most it could do was bring the humidity down to 60%, and that was with it running continuously. I gave up and brought it upstairs to use in the tiny bathroom instead. I then purchased a Danby DDR606 60 pint Energy Star one, which immediately dropped the humidity to 50% and very easily kept it there without running continuously (and it is nice and quiet also.)

The moral of the story...don't expect this to do more than dehumidify a very small area. It would be great for a bedroom or bathroom, since it is quiet enough to put in a living space. However, look elsewhere if you want a more effective product for a basement or slightly larger space.

Oh..one other thing...the first one of these I got from Amazon did not dehumidify at all out of the box. I exchanged it for the one I have, which most certainly DOES work...just not adequately for my space.

Customer Review: Excellent, quiet, effective
Summary: 5 Stars

We have a finished basement in a house built in 1960. Despite several sealing attempts, water still seeps through and is always pervasive in our basement.

Because of our damp basement, we've always used one or more dehumidifiers. We have tried more than 5 brands of dehumidifiers. Except for the Soleus, every brand (Whirlpool, LG, etc.) have all been VERY loud (imagine running a window-unit air conditioner in the same room you're in) and create a GREAT DEAL of heat in the room in wish the dehumidifier runs. Since the basement is actually a living area of our home, the other dehumidifiers were unacceptable. In addition, all four of our previous dehumidifiers lasted only about a year before they were shorted out, recalled (one Whirlpool TWICE), or just outright failed.

The Soleus is VERY quiet. It gathers at least a bucket of water from the air each day. It creates virtually no heat. It has had no failures or issues for us. I just clean the snap-out filter from the back each week or so, keep the bucket clean, and I get no issues at all from this appliance.

At first, I thought it was TOO quiet and was broken. But, within the first day, it filled up the bucked with water. Awesome.

Customer Review: Soleus CFM-25E Dehumidifier
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought the Soleus because of its outstanding low noise rating.
It is indeed very low noise. Unfortunately it has control problems.

The computerized controls in the 2 I've owned do the following:
Once humidity setpoint is reached, the compresser turns off, never
to restart. The fan alone runs. Because of the fan, you will think
it is working until you either realize it is collecting no water,
or notice the very faint compressor hum is missing.
To restart the compressor it is necessary to do a hard reboot,
which means unplug, wait 1 minute, plug back in and work the buttons
on top to get it to dehumidify again.
You can see another review on Amazon for a 40 pint unit where
no water extraction is the complaint. I suspect this is why.

A 30 pint Maytag M3DH30B2A I also own is louder, but always works.
One big Maytag advantage in my opinion:
It has manual control - no computer to go wrong.

Finally - both the Soleus and Maytag blow out an odor I don't like -
I think it comes from the plastics used for their construction.
The Maytag is now 1 year old; the odors have diminished.

Customer Review: Great Dehumidifier so far!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this for several months. Got it refurbished. It works well. The water bin is a bit difficult to remove, but I only do it every few days and it is usually not full. Push in on the sides and pull a bit, then grab the handle below and do this a few times until you get it out a bit and then you can pull it out. No brute force needed.

I wanted it because of the size, big enough for a bedroom and closet with the doors and windows often open, but don't need to dry out a basement.

The power usage of 220W was good, the next larger haier 30 pint uses 440W. I plan to use it all year and have it on all night at least.

Since I began using it in an unheated room upstairs at night, I have not needed to turn on the heat there at all, where it used to be quite chilly. I hope it will help with heat in the summer also...

Previously I had tried a small dehumidifier using the Peltier technology. It quit after a couple of months. Plus it only held about a pint. This holds 12 pints and I empty it every few days. So obviously that was too small for the space...

Customer Review: Great product- Update 11/21/07- Product Failed
Summary: 5 Stars

Update 11/21/07:
After 6 weeks of continuous use the compressor failed resulting in no dehumidification. I tried unplugging, resetting to no avail. My amazon return period expired so I contact Soleus and they offered to send me a replacment with one caveat- I had to ship the malfunctioning product back first and pay for the shipping. Well, being that I live on the East coast and it was shipping to CA it cost me 70 bucks to ship UPS. I recommend you keep the original box for awhile in case this happens to you. I will try to fight this charge and get them to back their product completely. Just a little disappointed.

Original Review:
I researched many products and chose this one bc they said it was quiet. They were right. I needed something for my 12x20 finished basement room to remove the musty wet feeling down there. It is great, you would not know you are in the basement when I have it running. My only regret is I did not get the bigger model since I am emptying the bucket frequently but I intend to tap and feed into the sump pump area anyway. Highly recommend this product.
