Tools and Hardware Reviews of Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat

Customer Review: Excellent product!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Great dehumidifier at a great price. Worked straight out of the box. We live on the 'wet side' of Oahu and have been getting more rain than usual. Humidity was so high, we had mold growing on the bottom of shoes on the floor and the entire 12x12 room felt damp. No more. This baby pulls about 1.5 gallons of water a day from the air. We already have a window a/c unit that puts out a good bit of noise and I didn't want a loud dehumidifier. This model is sooooo quiet, you can't even tell its on. Simply amazing.

Lots of pluses and very few negatives:
Very lightweight and small footprint on floor.
Doesn't require a lot of space around it as some other do.
Easy to use (just plug it in!)

It only has four settings for dehumidifying and doesn't tell you the humidity level of the room, but that wasn't important to me...I want to keep the room dry and keep it on 'continuous dehumidify' all day long. Also, it vents warm air into the room, raising temp 1-2 degrees F but with the drier air we barely notice.

Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat
I am heating my garage (800 sq. ft) with a vent-less propane heater. Prior to purchasing my Soleus Dehumidifier, all of the metal in the garage was rusting because of the increased humidity caused by the propane heater. I spent weeks removing the rust buildup on my tools, pipes and the garage door openers drive screws and tension springs. This year, I researched the available dehumidifiers out there and selected the Soleus model. I am extremely satisfied with my selection. There hasn't been any rust build up on anything and my garage heater has been on and is keeping my garage at 50 deg. (my decision) even though the outside air temp. in NE New York has been 20 deg. or less. The hose hookup to my drain makes it convenient by not having to empty the bucket. The unit is made primarily for indoor houses because it is so quiet and good looks, but I find it very useful for my garage. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for my house or recommend it to my friends & family.

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY!!!!

I purchased 2 units outside of amazon since it was cheaper. They did not work in a humid basement at ~65F. It is supposed to work down to about 38F. I called soleus support and they suggested keeping it on the constant/low setting for a couple of days. Did not draw a drop of water. On one unit the coils in the back were not even cold. I was able to ship them back for replacements, however one unit they just sent right back to me since I checked the serial number!!!

Same results, no water. So I sent these back for replacements. The replacements arrived, same results, no water. So I finally got in touch with the retailer and was able to send the units back to soleus for a refund. I'm still waiting on the refund but its supposed to be approved.

I've noticed that there are some other brands that look very similar to soleus so I think these are just a generic made-in-china dehumidifier with different branding on the outside.

DO NOT BUY!!!

Customer Review: Excellent for small spaces or basements
Summary: 4 Stars

The only significant downside with this dehumidifier is that it has a relatively small water capacity. The device itself it compact, quiet, and lightweight. The settings on the control panel are simple and intuitive, as is the overall design. It is more than adequate for a northern midwest atmosphere.

I run it on low in my basement, and empty the tank every couple of days (usually it's full within 24 hours, but I just don't feel like going down there and emptying it every single day). Sometimes, if it gets particularly muggy, I'll run it on high in the bedroom or living room, and it does an amazingly good job of pulling moisture out of the air (obviously it's not instantaneous, or even as fast as a much bigger or louder unit). I think, on the balance, this unit is an extremely efficient balance between dehumidifying and noise/electric usage.

I've had this unit for about two years, and I haven't any problems with it during that time period.

Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS

Well, I too wanted a quiet dehudifier. Is that too much to ask? This unit is silent, but it does not collect a drop of water. the noiser units that I have tried collect lots of water, but they sound like a helicopter is operating in my basement, and the noise would carry throughout the house. I worked with Soleus , they even RMA'd the original, and I'm on the 2nd unit, but I can not reccomend this unit. Maybe if i lived in a more humid area, such as the deep south, it would be useful, but the unit did not work in my chicago land basement.

Also, a quick note on working with soleus customer service - obviously this company does not have a service department like DELL or some other large company. CS consists of 1-2 people, so it is not all that convenient.

Can somebody reccomed a dehudifier that:
collects water!
has a hose attachment option
is pretty quiet (I'm not asking for silent!)
costs less than $200?
