Tools and Hardware Reviews of Sonin 00700 Water Alarm with Remote SensorCustomer Review: BOB IN FL Summary: 1 Stars
We have been having some water issues in the condo building so I purchased this to put by the water heater. I tested it before I put it on the floor. Perfect. The next day, I went to demo this for a neighbor. Didn't work. Changed the battery, even though it was new out of the pack. Barely a click. Wouldn't wake the mouse. As others have said, great idea, VERY POOR quality. Took it apart and put another new battery in and still just a clicking sound. Others have had the same experience. Amazon needs to pull this product and get our money back from Sonin.
Customer Review: Poor design Summary: 2 Stars
This water alarm is poorly designed. The suction cup is pretty much useless (it won't stick to anything), and the test button is so exposed that it constantly gets pressed when the device is in my tool bag. Since the device doesn't have a protective case to carry it in, there is no way to guard the button from getting pressed. Of course, if your alarm will be permanently installed somewhere (like in a water heater closet), then these design flaws won't matter to you.
Oh well, for the price, I guess I shouldn't expect much.
Customer Review: Not impressed Summary: 1 Stars
In our 30 years at this home we've had 3 basement floods. The last one was because the sump pump switch stuck. This seemed like a good early warning device but I'm disappointed. It's really pretty chintzy and the alarm cannot be heard upstairs unless you're really listening for it. It will not attach to a sump pit, so I just dangled it in the pit on it's wire. It does set the alarm when water contacts it, but unless I lengthen the wire it's not doing much good. At least it didn't cost too much.
Customer Review: Good, loud, but not perfect. Summary: 4 Stars
This alarm works well and I am generally happy with it. It's extremely loud and should work well for basement or garage applications. If I have any gripes, it would be that the cord could be longer and, more importantly, that it would be nice to have an alarm silence function. The button on the front of the unit only serves as an alarm test button and the only way to silence the alarm is to remove the sensor from the liquid. Also, changing the battery requires a screwdriver.
Customer Review: Great product if it only worked. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this about 2 years ago to detect a leak from my water heater. Well, today I noticed wet carpet outside the closet where the water heater is but no alarm had gone off. I pressed the test button and it went off as expected. I then set the sensor in a pool of water and nothing. I Replaced the battery and tried again. Nothing. So the product doesn't do the one thing it's designed to do. Look elsewhere.
