Tools and Hardware Reviews of Southwest Specialty Products 60001S Book Diversion SafeCustomer Review: Looks the part Summary: 4 Stars
What I think a lot of reviews fail to convey is that these book safes are inexpensive and made from surplus books that were just laying around at a seller/distributor/warehouse. It is made from an actual hardcover book, therefore it really has the feel and weight of a real book for the most part.
The center is hollowed out quite nicely, and a somewhat cheap feeling plastic hide-a-way box is inserted. The plastic box is covered with some kind of coating that gives it an unconvincing look & feel of felt. But, for the price, this item has a value and quality that you'd expect.
The books they buy in bulk to make these are ones that aren't really selling, which means no one is reading them, which is actually a good thing... since it probably won't attract someone to yank it off yourself and start skimming pages. On the other hand, the book title you may receive could be quirky and not fit in with your collection as well as another title might... it's the luck of the draw, but that doesn't mean the reviews of this should reflect poorly on the product.
For the price, I have no complaints. If you want a locking book-safe with a boring & common title like a dictionary, it's going to cost your more than double this price and also look a lot less convincing when pulled out of the shelf and inspected.
Good product for the money. Four stars, as the manufacturer could have upgraded the interior storage box a little and charged an extra dollar or two, but had a more upscale feeling product... but all-in-all, definitely worth buying.
Customer Review: Good product, but I'm returning and buying same item elsewhere Summary: 3 Stars
Having appreciated the reviews that commented on the title on the booksafe jacket, I bought anyway in the vain hope that the stock had changed. What else can be said about the unfortunate dust jacket/title, Free Food for Millionaires? For me, it fails on several levels. In my library, the title is not sufficiently "boring." Instead of blending, the dusk jacket absolutely invites even the casual innocent to pull the volume for a flip-through. ("Since when did you start buying self-help, get-rich stuff? Is it any good?") I love my friends, but don't need them stumbling across my goodies anymore than I want criminals helping themselves.
The double book model is perfect and of good quality. The historical fiction titles are beautifully "blah." I want the single model too, so I called the manufacturer at the number listed on the product insert and explained the situation. I asked how I might purchase the same product with a different dusk jacket. The company representative was pleasant, professional and helpful. After I nixed the idea of "calling Amazon to ask about their stock" (the very idea...I'm still laughing), he named several other online retailers that had received shipments of the single book model with a different title. He also asked for me to call him back if I had any difficulties. The bottom line is that I returned the Amazon.com purchase and bought the same item from a smaller vendor...with customer service via phone or live chat or whatever.

Customer Review: Perfect Hiding Place For Small Items - Recommended Summary: 5 Stars
The Book Safe is exactly what we were looking for to store emergency cash and extra keys. The Book Safe is a real hard-back book, complete with dust jacket, that has a hidden compartment embedded in the center. It is not possible to tell that there is anything different about it once it is on the bookshelf.
The "safe" itself is an insert that has a felt covered plastic cover that can be popped off to access the items inside.
This is a well made book safe and perfect for my needs.
Highly Recommended! If you need a larger locking safe, take a look at Locking Large Steel Book Safe
Customer Review: Fits right in w/all my books...so inconspicuous. Summary: 5 Stars
I love this book because I have it in plain sight with my other books, but no one would know it's a safe. I told my sisters about it, just in case there was an emergency, they would know where to find my documents. Anyway, when I first showed my sister, she thought it was a book that I was reading. It's probably one of the best diversion safes. I have some keys, old gold coins, old dollar bills, my passport, social security card, and a photo inside. I could probably fit some additional smaller documents in there, but I haven't gotten around to it. All in all, this is a great book safe to purchase. You won't be disappointed.
Customer Review: Almost perfect - except for title Summary: 4 Stars
I like book safes and have used them in the past because you can hide virtually anything in plain sight. This book is made well, it has a nice felt casing, the book seals well and if one were to pick it up it feels like a real book. And one might be apt to pick it up and flip through it, because it has the stupidest title of any book in my collection. "Free Food for Millionaires"? That sticks out like a zebra among horses. Besides the title, it's perfect. But come on, the title?? Who made that decision?
