Tools and Hardware Reviews of Springstar S102 Flea TrapCustomer Review: Absolutely worthless Summary: 1 Stars
This product was absolutely useless in eradicating fleas. The only use I can see for this product is maybe as a flea detector. It will possibly tell you if you have fleas.
I had a flea infestation in my house that was pretty bad. I bought several of these products and put them in several places on the floor. They caught a few dozen fleas, but not all the fleas were attracted to them. I would put my socked foot on the carpet next to the flea trap and fleas would instantly sense it and jump out of the carpet and onto my sock. But they wouldn't do the same for the trap, which was right there.
I think the concept that you can eradicate a flea population with this device is inherently flawed. Even if you were to trap 90% of the fleas, the other 10% would reestablish the population in a matter of days.
I also tried the flea powder that you spread on the carpet that you can buy at a pet store. Useless as well. The fleas were immune to it. And it leaves this nasty powder on everything you own.
My final solution was to call an exterminator and have them spray. This seemed to do the trick. In addition, my vet gave me pills that you feed your cat, and it deprives the flea of some nutrient that is required to make the protective shell on their eggs. And I also used Advantage. Finally the fleas all went away. After that I did Advantage on my cats monthly, so if they brought new fleas into the house, they would die. I think the Advantage is the best, because it turns your cat into a walking flea trap. If there are fleas in the house, they will find the cat, touch the poison and die.
Customer Review: Save your money and buy a night light! Summary: 1 Stars
With three cats and a dog plus two kids who can't seem to keep the pets outside, our house has been totally infested with fleas this summer. I had made a simple flea trap using a desk lamp pointing down at a low cake pan filled with soapy water which was catching dozens of fleas a day. When I saw these traps advertised I thought they looked like just the ticket and expected they would be a big improvement over my decidedly low tech job. So I ordered four right away.
Now I'm less then impressed and plan on returning these today.
Yes, the light on the trap attracts fleas - you can see dozen of the little buggers milling around the each trap. But after using four of the Spring Star traps for two days, I have only caught a grand total of just one flea. That is one pretty expensive flea. And yes, I did remember to take the protective paper off the sticky paper and pointed the sticky side up. It just seems like the fleas can't find their way into to trap or if they do they simply aren't caught on the sticky paper. If these traps are a vast improvement over the "old style" traps, I hate to think how bad the old ones were. I think Neil Young must have bought a few of these which inspired him to write "Piece of Crap."
What I have ended up having to do is spray the area around the traps and kill the fleas that have congregated around the traps. This is good as it limits the area I need to spray. However, I could have done this just as easily and much cheaper using a two dollar night light. I'd say save your money and just get the night light first.
Customer Review: Traps Fleas, its what it does... Summary: 5 Stars
Traps Fleas, its what it does...
We do not have any pets... But a few of our neighbors do in neighboring Condos. This is the first summer within the past five years we've been hit with their fleas.
Initially the flea trap was set up near the patio sliding door for a couple days, then placed under the couch where the fleas started to migrate. (dark and warm) I made sure it was far enough back to keep out of reach from our 2.76yr old son.
I spot check the pad after 48hours, and it was 1/2 full. Again after a week, when I moved it under the couch, it was nearly 3/4 full.
The simple design minimizes the chance for little fingers to get stuck to the pad. (Left Rubber Band around unit to keep prying hands from trying to pick up the plastic grid. In case our son figured a way to snag it) Unlike the Victor M230 Ultimate Flea Trap, where little hands can reach inside... (Did not purchase the Victor, but know people who have it.)
I'm giving a rating of 5. I believe product could be improved slightly by a snap-in cover (grid/opaque) over the light bulb. And product only came with one sticky pad. I would have gladly paid $1-2 more for additional pads to be included with the flea trap. (Although from a marketing/sales perception I know why they didn't.)

Customer Review: I'm glad I got it, definately worth it, works great Summary: 5 Stars
My computer desk is in an area that isn't in the open so there's a lot of places for fleas to hide, and with a few cats in the house that go near this area, I was getting bitten on the legs whenever I sat down at the desk. Treating the cats with Advantage reduced the problem on them, but didn't get rid of the fleas on the floor. After I put the flea trap in the desk area the pad was filling up...IN ONLY A FEW DAYS! And best thing for me is I wasn't getting bitten on my legs when I sat at the desk. Now I changed the glue pad and here and there some get trapped, most did in the first few days. I'm glad I got it.
One comment, I saw on here placing duct tape under a lamp would do the same thing, I disagree! The glue pad seems a bit stickier than duct tape, the night light is mounted under a cover so paper or debris can't fall on it and cause a fire, the glue pad has a grid cover on top of it so if paper or debris falls on it the grid will keep it from sticking, I imagine the light is mounted in the best position and distance from the pad to lure fleas in and the light is only a couple inches from the floor, close to where the fleas are. And it worked great for me.
Customer Review: Pleasantly Surprised Summary: 4 Stars
I had seen a few really bad reviews on this product and was hesitant to buy it...but, was on the verge of starting a full on assault on my flea problem so figured what the heck, I'll get some. I got 4 traps, one for each 'carpeted room'. Started with putting one in our family/TV room, and after just one night had 10-15 fleas. Put one under my computer desk as I am constantly having fleas jump on my legs the next night...3 days later, there must be about 30 or 40 fleas in there. My 2 year old is away at the moment, join up with her and her mom on vacation in a couple weeks time (YAY) so I put one in her room last night, and it already has a half dozen fleas or so. If you have a REALLY bad flea problem, I can't see where you can go wrong with this product. If it is a light infestation, you may end up with some of the results of the negative reviewers. In the meantime, getting the yard sprayed, got the Frontline on the cats. spraying the carpets with flea spray, doing about all I can to get rid of them as much as possible before we all return from vacation. Dang fleas!!
