Tools and Hardware Reviews of Stack-On LS-1402 Log StackerCustomer Review: best ideas are also the most simple ones Summary: 5 Stars
bought, put down, slid 6 studs in it, et voila. total assembly time: 10 minutes. Time to make 2 cuts in the studs: 5 to 10 minutes depending on your (hand or power) tool.
Sometimes our tough consumerist life gratifies us with a product reasonably priced, which surprisingly enough does what it's supposed to do.
this stacker is one of them. period.
I used it to install a log storage in my garage. I can safely assume that this thing is better used on a flat solid surface (concrete in my case, but anything solid and flat will do).
there is no question about the solidity of the material. And it's engineered so that you cannot deviate from the intended use: the studs have a fixed length: cant spread the stacker 15ft away from each other, or cant put a full height vertical stud because it will move off the slot immediately.
the fact that the wood is elevated a few inches from the ground definitely helps the drying process. I barely waited 2 months before burning a freshly cut tree (the stackers are in my garage though)
It's DIY and idiot proof that's for sure.
the reserve I might have is that if your house is heated with wood only, you're going to re-load this quite a number of times during the winter.
But then if that's your situation, you're well equipped already and you store massive amounts against your walls outside and don't even consider this kind of gadget. You're not from suburbia, you're from the wild :-)
If like me you have a fireplace that you mainly use for aesthetic reasons, occasionally,a couple of days a week for a couple of hours, then you'll appreciate to have your stock safely and nicely packed in your garage or on your terrace for one winter.
That's the kind of client this thing is targeted at imho.
