Tools and Hardware Reviews of Starrett 505A-12 ProSite 12-Inch Dial ProtractorCustomer Review: A must for Floor and Crown moulding Summary: 5 Stars
Starrett is an old and well-respected name for measuring devices. They make high-quality products, used in many industries. This Protractor keeps up that tradition of quality. It is accurate to 1/2 degree. The digital protractors claim accuracy to 0.1 degrees, but good luck setting your miter saw to anything closer that 1/2 degree. It is big and rugged; I expect years of use from it.
Customer Review: Good Tool - Wish They'd Had The Smaller One When I Bought This One Summary: 4 Stars
Overall, I like this tool a lot. It's solid, easy to use, and my label seems to be on straight because this tool is accurate. My only problem is that there are so many places I can't use it because of it's length. I bought mine in 2004, before they came out with a shorter version. If you know you'll be OK with the size, I think this is a good tool for the price.
Customer Review: Not calibrated, not accurate Summary: 2 Stars
I agree with one of the reviewers above. This unit is not accurate. I have been through two, and have checked two more from guys on my crew. The dial is off by anywhere between 1/2 to 1 degree on all 4 (with their own calibration marks!). It is a nice solid tool, and priced well, but if you need a dead on accurate reading keep looking. I switched to the bosch.
Customer Review: Pitifully inaccurate protractor scale Summary: 2 Stars
As a stamped aluminum bevel without lock this thing is adequate. As a protractor it's an embarrassment to the Starrett name. The scale if off by a full degree at various angles, apparently because the thick plastic decal is not die cut concentrically with its printing. That's very poor quality for any measuring tool, and completely unexpected in a Starrett product.
Customer Review: accurate, but not really necessary Summary: 3 Stars
Unlike some of the reviews posted here have indicated, my prosite was dead on accurate when I measured it against my speed square. On the other hand, I trimmed a whole house and never really needed it. I just used a $6 bevel guage on the corners that were visiblely out of square. It might be more useful for crown, but for base and casings it just wasn't necessary.
