Tools and Hardware Reviews of SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric SteamerCustomer Review: Quick and easy - good value for the money Summary: 4 Stars
When I was a visual merchandiser for a retail store, I used a professional steamer nearly every day. I purchased this steamer based on price and user reviews. So far it has lived up to my expectations. It heats up quickly and I can get several garments done before I run out of water. Besides being lighter and made of plastic, it performs very similarly to professional grade (which cost 4 times as much). Two minor problems I have with this steamer - there are no brakes on the wheels so the steamer slides around while I'm steaming, and the telescoping pole isn't quite high enough for my taste. Most of the time I hang my garment on something else. Like with any steamer, it takes a little practice to really get good at it. A pointer for those new to steaming - place the steamer head on the inside of your garment pushing steam from inside to out. It's easier for you to handle everything that way (rather than steaming from the outside of the garment). Plus, I save a lot of steam burns by working this way!
Customer Review: Steamer worked well for a year but now leaks and is unusable Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this steamer 13 months ago. For the price, it did a good job getting major wrinkles out of my blouses and pants for a year. It was sturdy and created steam within 30 seconds of turning it on. Every 5-10 minutes the steam flow would get clogged because of the bending of the tube, but one would simply hold the tube straight up for 5 seconds to fix this. I wished that the hanger stand reached at least a foot higher, and I'm a short person (5'3''). The steamer worked fine for the past year, and I would have given it 4 stars for the price point. However, it started leaking horribly in it's 13th month of use--one month shy of the 12-month warranty. It leaks puddles of water from the base. I'm talking major leakage where it looks like I poured a bottle of water onto my floor, and the carpet I had it on was soaked through after each use. The steamer still works and steams, but I have stopped using it because of the mess it creates. I would not recommend buying this model.
Customer Review: Does the job BUT... Summary: 4 Stars
Well, as soon as I got the item by mail I tried it on my three dresses. What I didn't like right away was that the handle gets hot within my second dress. But I was thinking maybe that happened because I was using it for too long due to my first time. (And I always couldn't really touch anything hot when my mom or my friends wouldn't even feel anything on their fingertips.) So this one is so so.
The overall opinion that it takes time to get use to it. I burn myself every time I am using it and I have the steamer for about a month now. Also, I think this steamer is affordable therefore it is not as strong as more expensive one. So it takes me forever to get my bf's shirt done. With all the burns I don't really want to use it that much. Only if there is hard to reach places with the iron on my dress. So I wouldn't throw away the board and iron.
Basically it does the job but very slow and it takes very long to get use to it. But that might be just me.
Customer Review: inexpensive and reliable, but design is CHEAP Summary: 3 Stars
Pros:
- inexpensive - only around $50 compared to $100 and up for professional steamers
- light
- easy to operate, easy to refill
Cons:
- materials are CHEAP. Namely the body is made of a thin plastic and water tank is too thin on PVC. Could be improved easily.
- wheels are so tiny and flimsy - they will break off the first serious roll around your house or a store.
The metal pole is thin and the connection port made of thin plastic - mine was already broke when delivered (!!), I have installed the pole with no problems though. But the fact says for itself on how thin the plastic is. It breaks way to easily.
Good for house? Maybe. But I would rather spend 30-40 more $$ and would buy a better model.
Good for store/business? NO. Definitely no.
Would I recommend it? No, unless you don't want to spend more than $50 and still have it. Even then I would check your local craigslist for used models.
Customer Review: Excellent starting steamer for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this steamer for close to two years now and it still works great. I bought it when my iron when out, so it was my first steamer and I did not want to spend a lot as I did not know if I would like steaming.. turns out I LOVE steaming :-) I use this frequently, usually do several things at once, whatever I can get on a tank-full of H2O.
Now that I know I love steaming and will never iron again - I am looking for an upgrade.
PROS:
PRICE!
Heats up quickly
Works great - never had a problem in almost two years
Light weight - easy to move and roll out of sight
Fairly tall hanging height - but would like it taller. I am 5' 8".
CONS (what I am looking to upgrade):
Hose gets hot and I frequently say ouch (or $*%&) when using this
Can get tipsy with heavier items
Should use distilled H2O
Relatively small water tank
Taller hanging height
