Customer Review: Works OK... BEWARE OF 'BATTERY LOW' INDICATION

I've had this over a year, and it does the job, works OK, etc... EXCEPT.
One annoying 'feature' on this device is the light that's supposed to let you know the box was opened will incessantly blink to indicate that one battery or the other is 'low'. Instead of simply stopping working when a battery dies, you know, like EVERYTHING ELSE, it flashes the light that is supposed to tell you the box was opened, to let you know that sooner or later, the battery will die. Especially what with the constant blinking. So it still chimes and notifies, but the 'box was opened' indication is replaced with the light ALWAYS blinking until you go out and replace the little 12v battery in the sender, or the AA cells in the receiver. 2 blinks=receiver. 3 blinks=transmitter.
Of course the instructions (once I dug them out - I actually kept them) do mention this 'diagnostic feature'. Here I thought I'd just stick it to the mailbox cover and put the batteries in, and it would 'just work' (and it DID). Nope. RTFM, and read EVERY LINE... that is, if you can find them some months later when a battery begins to go 'too low'. The light will NEVER, EVER go out until you replace that (perfectly good) battery that isn't topped off quite as highly as the 'battery low' circuitry wants it to be. No matter how hard you pound on it. What's worse, since the battery can be 'borderline', it can reset and 'work fine' intermittently for a time, giving you the impression that it IS broken. It behaved like that for a few weeks before it became un-resetable. It probably would've worked for another year on the original battery, but the 'battery low' behavior forces you to replace the battery LONG before it finishes its job. The sender battery is the same size as some key remote fobs and garage door openers, so you might be able to use it in one of those. Needless to say, it's a $6 battery.
This is an unnecessary 'feature' that is maddening. Like the voice chimes that they briefly put into cars, once upon a time (THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION. THE KEY IS IN THE IGNITION. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. THE DOOR IS AJAR....). Like a call waiting phone robot that DEMANDS that you to SPEAK to it out loud, wherever you happen to be, and then doesn't understand anything you say, no matter how slowly, nor how much more loudly you speak.
Oh, and I ended up just using some zipcord to attach the sender to the mailbox door, because the sticky pad gave up and dropped the sender after a few months out in the weather. If you do this, make sure the battery door is accessible.
