Tools and Hardware Reviews of Storage Dynamics 5-Foot Vinyl Covered Steel Over door Storage Basket RackCustomer Review: better than I anticipated Summary: 5 Stars
This is an inexpensive item and I expected it to be cheap but I was pleasantly surprised. I received this item today. It was professionally wrapped for shipping and came in about six pieces. There were two racks with two wire connectors and two over the door brackets. It went together in about five seconds. I decided to get a pair of pliers and bend the wire connectors and bracked in some to make it more permanent. Since I was hanging it on a metal door and couldn't use screws to permanently attach it to the door, I took some clear strapping tape and taped it to the door where it wouldn't be seen. Finally, I took a couple of wire coat hangers and added some hooks to hang grocery bags off of the shelves.
I was pretty impressed with how much it holds. True, I wouldn't put cans of vegetables in the racks but they hold quite a bit of boxes of cereal, noodles, etc.
The optional screws would make it very sturdy in my opinion. If they made a 14" wide model, I'd order it in a second for another door. I'm pleased. It's a good product and it's fairly inexpensive.
I think this would be a good product to add storage in other rooms as well such as a bedroom closet.
Customer Review: WHAT A SNAP! WHAT VALUE! WHAT QUALITY! Summary: 5 Stars
The organizer arrived within a few days of purchase (FedEx), well packaged in a large box with ample cushioning. The directions are included, of course, but anyone could figure out the assembly without the instructions.
It's a matter of placing the two hooks over the door, slipping on the first rack, then using two more hooks to attach the second rack. Screws are included should one want more security, but the weight of my items keep the racks from flopping in any case. The hangers fit my 1.5" thick door frame with room to spare (I'm guessing they'll fit over a 2" frame). Each "basket" is approx. 16" long and 4.5" wide.
What a relief for me to have a place in my bathroom to put all the hand lotions and other "necessary" items every woman has and wants handy. After all, besides the annoyance of a cluttered countertop, what woman wants to spend time digging through under-bathroom counter cabinets to retrieve her necessities when they can be put away discreetly while within reach on an inner bathroom door?
I recommend this high-quality organizer for any room in the house; I plan on getting another, in fact, for my pantry door.
Customer Review: not as promised Summary: 1 Stars
The rack is not actually a five-foot rack. It comes as two separate 2.5' racks. Two C-shaped hooks (not permanently attached to either racks) are used to hook the bottom rack to the top rack. It is like a precarious swing set that falls apart at the slightest tremor.
Also, the top rack is connected to the over-the-door hooks by draping the top rack (with its pencil-thin wire) over two wide hooks. The hooks are not snug nor attached in any way, so the entire contraption slides around on the door.
I tried to use this equipment in my pantry door to hold spices, bottles, pasta, etc. Unfortunately, it was a game every time I opened the door. I never knew what configuration the racks would take when the door opened. The only guarantee was that -- no matter what misshapened form the racks took -- there was bound to be something I had to immediately catch from falling.
If you don't intend to use this rack as an over-the-door rack, I think it would be useful as a set of shelves nailed into the wall. Otherwise, I do not recommend this over-the-door rack because it's highly unstable.
Customer Review: Not good Summary: 2 Stars
I ordered this rack for the back of my bathroom door, but it ended up sitting in my garage now.
First, the quality of the material that this rack is made of is poor. It's that thin, light, metal thing covered in white paint, which you see mostly in hardware store. I don't even have a fancy bathroom. Most of my bathroom stuff are from Target, but this rack still doesn't look good in my bathroom.
Second, as one reviewer pointed out, unless you are willing to drill several holes and put in screws in your door, this rack won't stay and will swing when you open the door each time. The worst part is that things will fall off from the back of this rack when it swings away from the door. Particularly because the rack itself is not heavy, when you put on something slightly heavier, it easily falls off.
It does give lots of storage place, but I would only use it for garage or storage spaces where I don't care of the look and can fasten the rack onto the wall.
Customer Review: Overall - Ok Summary: 3 Stars
I received this product quickly and was very pleased. There is nothing wrong with the ordering/shipping of this product.
A few things that I am disappointed in:
1) There were no instructions that came with the assembly. Granted, there were only two parts, but I also received screws. I did not know if I needed to use the screws. For how I used the product, I did not screw the device into the door.
2) I used this product to store VHS tapes (about 80) on the back of a door. Perhaps because I did not use screws or maybe I have exceeded the weight capacity this device can bear, but I am starting to see buckling and bending of the over the door hangar (clip) part.
3) Perhaps because I did not use the screws, but the device when hanging can be a bit unstable.
Overall, the product has not fallen down yet, but I think for what I wanted to use the device for, it just cannot bear that much weight.
