Customer Review: Good finished product but annoying assembly

I bought these two weeks ago to use as cubbies for papers and small items in our homeschool classroom. I love that you can configure the cubbies into whatever shape you'd like, and they seem to be sturdy enough once assembled.
Before purchase, I read the other reviews and understood that assembling these cubbies seemed to cause some problems, and now, after assembling mine, I agree. I bought two sets (30 cubbies) and assembled a total of 3 8-cubby units, and I spent about 1 1/2 hours on the assembly. The assembly method is pretty simple and straightforward, but the little plastic connectors are frustrating to handle. I used a rubber mallet as suggested in a previous review, and that definitely helped, but it was very annoying to get all the pieces together, and the set-up is not well-suited for those with perfectionist tendencies (I could never seem to get the connectors to line up perfectly straight).
Overall, this is a good finished product if you're willing to spend time putting it together and suffer some frustration along the way.

I decided to organize my closet. I have a LOT of shoes! I also really don't mind at all assembling things like this...in fact I just put together a chest of drawers from Target last week! So, I purchased two of the 15 shoe cubbies. My arms are still sore from putting these things together! I was just able to remove the band aids on my finger without starting the bleeding up again...yes, I was injured putting the cubbies together! It is a minor injury, and the blood wiped off the cubbies very easily, so that is good! Would I do it again??? NO WAY IN HE%%!! What a huge project this was. Perhaps if I had only ordered one set of 15 cubbies I would feel differently...I thought about returning the second set...but at that point I was in...all or nothing. The end result - the cubbies seem fairly sturdy...they look ok, my shoes do fit in fine (I wear a 6.5 woman's shoe), and my closet looks a bit neater. If you enjoy putting puzzles together, and have a couple free hours, go for it....but me, I will never buy these again.Customer Review: Works great, love it!!!

This cube system works great! For those still clinging to doubt from the negative reviews - don't heed them at all! My shoes are all in the 7 to 7-1/2 size range and fit into the cubbies fine. Please note that the shoes do not fit side-by-side, as some unhappy people expected. For tennis shoes and other larger sorts, they must be placed in heel-to-toe. The cubbies are also deep enough that high heels can be stored upright, placed diagonally with one toward the back of the cubby and the other in easy view at the front (again, not side-by-side, but at least not left out on the floor). Taller shoes, like hiking boots and Uggs, will not fit into the cubbies, but are perfectly at home on the top of the storage unit. Assembly takes a little bit of time, but it uses the same connectors as the wire snap together storage cubes sold at Target. Just work on it during the commercials of your favorite TV show and it will be finished in no time. Good luck - happy storage!Customer Review: Too flimsy, no refund with return

I had been searching for this customizable solution for quite some time and had been happy Amazon was selling. However, when I received it, I found it very difficult to assemble. The pieces don't "click" in place and the plastic connector pieces are weak. While the sides seem sturdy, the assembly results in a flimsy build and I would rather put comparable money into non-customizable "wood" cubbies. I returned this item (long large box) in the mail using Amazon's handy label system. I made sure to tape over the label so that no snagging could occur and rip off the label, I made sure my return address was clear and the box well-sealed. I also made a note of when I dropped it off at the post office: June 16, 2008. It's now July 29, 2008 and I have not heard a peep from Amazon nor received my refund. Not the best service/experience I've had from Amazon. I just might stick to books next time...Customer Review: This is junk

I've assembled many things over the years, and although I've been frustrated with some of those assemblies, I've prevailed in the end. Not so with this product. It comes with no instructions, so the pictures on the box have to suffice. It took me almost an hour to finally understand how, in theory, this piece was to be assembled. It took yet another hour of assembling one part only to have another portion fall apart, to realize that even if I managed to put this thing together, its falling apart while in use was inevitable. I've built additions to homes and know my way around tools, but I couldn't wait to print the return label and get this piece of junk out of my house. I know there are some positive reviews of this product; those reviews are what prompted me to buy this. For those of you who have had success with this, that's great. I'm just warning future buyers as to what they might be facing.
