I live in a coastal area with VERY hard water. It was literally tearing my skin to the point where the thought of showering would make me cringe. My skin would burn and itch as soon as I was finished and would not stop. Lotions did not help at all and only made the problem more painful. My hair was also falling out at an alarming rate. I started looking into filters and decided on this one based on the price and other positive reviews. I could hardly wait for it to arrive. I had no problem at all installing this and consider myself a moderate DIY'er. Just some very minor adjustments-had some leakage from the connection between the shower supply and the filter body; just reinserted the washer that was with the previous showerhead and problem solved. Ran only two gallons of water through the filter to flush the carbon out and dumped it on the flowers as recommended! The real test was the first shower. I could feel the difference in the water IMMEDIATELY! It was unreal how GOOD the water now felt! My skin no longer burns and itches once it's dry! I can't say enough about this product and would recommend it to anyone who has the same problems I've had. I've been using the aquasana shower filter for the last 3 years and its a great product for filtering chlorine and other hard minerals. I notice my hair is healthier and the shower stall stays cleaner. If you are looking for a good shower filter this is definitely a top candidate. With that said I do have some complaints. Over the years that I have used these filters, I have had several occasions where the plastic thread that screws the filter onto the shower filter has broken. The cheap plastic build of the the section that screws the filter onto the shower head is prone to easily corrode and break. Especially if you are in an area with really hard water or lots of chlorine. I've complained several times to Aquasana about the problem. They were always very responsive and sent me replacement's. Still I wish they would re-design this model so the thread or even the whole shower head base is made of brass. Its not fun when one of these busts and the black filtering material spills all over your shower. Because of this I have been investigating other alternatives such as the Sprite shower filters which are made of durable solid brass chrome.Customer Review: DOES NOTHING FOR HARD WATER!

It installed well and doesn't leak the way others have said, but I used some extra parts to make that happen.
Unfortunately, it does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for HARD WATER. We have had problems with hard water since moving last year and I bought this in hopes that it would help with our hard water issues. Well, it claims to help with hard water and ph but it didn't change the water hardness at all. I even used a home testing kit to test the water before and after to see if the water hardness level changed. It didn't make it harder, but it didn't make it any softer either. It really didn't change the ph that much either. I would post the photos of the test if I could but I'm not sure how to do that. It is useless for hard water, but Hopefully it continues to filter out what it says it does. Unfortunately the water doesn't feel any different then it did before.
THIS PRODUCT REALLY SHOULDN'T CLAIM IT DOES ANYTHING TO HELP HARD WATER!!!!

Living in the top floor with low water pressure I was a little nervous about installing a filter. However, after the installation which lasted all of 5 min. or less, I was so surprised that the pressure was better. It was probably due in some part to a new nozzle and maybe more back-pressure, not sure. After using the unit for a week the results are just awesome. My hair is softer and you can really feel the difference on your face.
Dr. Oz has spoken about the importance of a shower filter on Oprah. Dr. Mercola has spoken about using one on his web site and Kevin Trudeau has written about it in his book "Natural Cures". So stop procrastinating and go out and get a filter. But from the ratings this one seems top of the line as far as percent of chlorine removed. Although a lower prices on the replacement filters would be nice or a video on youtube on how to rebuild them would be a great help.

I bought the Aquasana shower filter because I wanted fewer chemicals on my skin. I had no idea it would make such a huge difference with my skin and hair. My scalp stopped itching and my hair stopped falling out. My skin feels less tight and itchy. I noticed a difference almost immediately! I have been housesitting for a couple months and I definitely notice a difference... I can't wait to get back to my shower filter!
I would highly recommend this model. It's easy to install and doesn't take up too much room in the shower. The shower head that comes with the filter is really nice too.
My only suggestion would be for Aquasana to include some sort of sensor so you know when the filter needs to be replaced. Also to sell a 2-3 pack at a discount.
Amazon definitely has the best price for the filter and refills.
If only they had one for the faucet so I can take a "clean" bath...
