Tools and Hardware Reviews of Heating & Air Conditioning BoosterCustomer Review: Our bedroom is now a breeze! Summary: 5 Stars
This fan works wonderful for us! We recently purchased an 80 year old "character home". While the home does have central air conditioning, the master bedroom upstairs was noticably warmer than rooms on the main floor. After exploring all options (window air conditioner and portable air conditioner) we stumbled upon this "register booster". It has been a blessing. We took the grate off the wall and mounted the fan. It cycles on and off in sync with the central air and noticably chills the room. The fan does make some noise (really people - you realize that a window air conditioner or table fan also makes noise, right?) but we easily sleep and watch tv in our bedroom. And I'm a very light sleeper!
This is the first time that I have EVER reviewed a product on any online site (and I shop extensively online). We just think this item is so wonderful, we had to log on and share our thoughts. I actually logged on tonight to purchase another "register booster" just in case something happens to ours so that we have a backup...can't imagine our room without this unit!
Customer Review: Luke Warm Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this item when we were having 110 degree F. air temp. in Arkansas and our A/C just couldn't cool our living room below 78 degrees F. The room has a cathedral ceiling and about 25 ft X 15 ft. Our general impression was that it helped somewhat - but did not make a remarkable difference. This could be b/c the heat was so extreme that nothing would have helped. Our A/C is practically new and works well, so I'm not inclined to blame it. I would predict that the smaller the room and probably one w/o a cathedral ceiling would be ideal for this product - it definitely brings the air up and out better. Also, if you live in an area with desert or tropical conditions where temps are extreme, you'll likely feel 'luke warm' about this Register Booster. For the money, I'd do it again. We'll continue to experiment with it - maybe putting it in different rooms to gauge it's effectiveness. But, I'd say that if you have a large area to cool (and you know you're A/C is working properly), you may wish to invest in a air flow booster that technicians place in your duct work.
Customer Review: Works well as long as it works Summary: 1 Stars
I've used this product to increase heat flow in a room that is at the end of a end of a long duct run. It's a little loud but not so loud to drown out the television. It took a little experimenting to get the thermostat setting correct but once I had it right it worked well all season. I didn't try it for A/C so I just put the unit in storage until the next season. When I got it out and set it up in the fall it would not work at all. Since it was out of warranty I just went and bought a new one. This one also worked fine all season once I got the thermostat set. However, after the season I put this one away and the following fall I had exactly the same experience as one year earlier--it refused to work. As far as my experience is concerned--it works fine but don't expect it to work more than one season.
BTW, my house is a single-story ranch so I'm not trying to pull heavy air-condition air up to a secon floor room. I'd guess that this product isn't nearly strong enough to help in that situation.
Customer Review: EQ2 Equalizer -- Register Booster Summary: 1 Stars
Yep, I gotta agree with the other reviewers that this is a waste of money. Great concept, poorly executed. It does turn on and off automatically, but that's it's only good point.
I have an upstairs bedroom that gets about 5-6 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Warmer even than the adjacent bedroom. Put one of these over the vent, checked the temperature all day, and there was no difference. I think most computer fans are probably quieter and blow more air. All this seems to do is churn the air around a bit.
While I'm not a mechanical engineer, I think this product could have been designed better, without adding cost, and actually might have worked.
Save your money. If you have a vent that's not vlowing much air, try removing the grill. The grill restricts the airflow and removing it might be enough to help.
Customer Review: Works great with wood heat! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Charmaster furnace at my cabin. It burns propane or has a wood box. When burning wood, you need to manually turn the blower on the main furnace on(and off) to circulate the hot air in the plenum. Once the hot air is started the Register Booster will continue to "pull" heated air for as long as the plenum and ducts have hot air - can be for hours! It's much cheaper to run than the furnace blower and I can leave the EQ2 on when when I'm not around which you can't do with the furnace. I put the EQ2 in rooms with poor circulation and have even heat through out the cabin (the cabin is an older two story five bedroom structure). Definitely worth the investment in this situation.
