Tools and Hardware Reviews of Surefire T1A Titan Variable-Output LED FlashlightCustomer Review: One of the best EDC flashlights with the best UI Summary: 5 Stars
Even though I own several flashlights, this is my favorite EDC (every day carry). The User Interface (U.I.) is one of the best out there. While other EDCs have one or more light intensity levels and functions (strobe, beacon, etc.), they require you to do different procedures with the switch that some would find difficult to remember. With the T1A, you just turn the bezel one way for more light output, and the other way for less light in a gradual form, couldn't be easier.
Some users complain about the 5 min auto-off feature it has, but I like it. Frequently when somebody borrows mine, they leave it in the lowest setting thinking that they have turned it off (it has a click detent just before it turns off completely). This feature gives me peace of mind by not worrying about battery depletion by accident, besides, if you turn it on beyond 5% intensity level or so, this feature is disabled.
The beam is "floody", which means it's not too concentrated on the center, it gives the impression of less output than it really has but this has its advantages as it helps you to see where you are stepping while lighting the way further in front of you or looking inside drawers or suitcases. Some reviewers report that the max true output is 81 lumens out the front (OTF) instead of the specified 70 lumens, Surefire is known to be conservative on the specified output of their flashlights. The light output is very adecuate and when used at the lower settings it doesn't impair your night vision when you turn it off.
Extremely well built, very smooth operation and super-reliable. Some users have reported "angry blue" tint on their T1A's, but I think the newer lights have this problem resolved (mine is cool white which is OK for me). Some would consider it expensive but really well worth it IMHO. Get it, you won't regret it. If it's a present for someone special, he or she are going to LOVE it.

About SureFire The SureFire story begins in 1969, when Dr. John Matthews--an engineer with a Ph.D. from Cal Tech--founded the Newport Corporation in order to harness the power of the laser for industrial applications. Over time, Matthews turned his inventive mind toward shooting (his hobby and passion), hoping to adapt lasers as firearm sights. He eventually designed and patented a laser sight in 1979, and subsequently bought the laser sight business from the Newport board in order to focus exclusively on commercializing the product. The newly formed Laser Products debuted with a handgun sight for the Colt Trooper, following it up with a sight for a Ruger Mini-14. In 1984, the business took a huge leap forward with a phone call from the Los Angeles Police Department's SWAT Team, which wanted to borrow a number of laser-sighted shotguns for security during the 1984 Olympic Games. In the years that followed, the technically superb, yet seriously expensive, laser-sighted firearms paved the way for future developments, including a weapon-mounted flashlight called the SureFire WeaponLight. Laser Products went on to establish itself as the leading manufacturer of rugged, powerful, and compact illumination tools for tactical applications--from weapon-mounted lights and laser sights to handheld lights powerful and bright enough to qualify as "force-option" tools that could temporarily blind, unbalance, and disorient a threat. Eventually, the SureFire moniker became so synonymous with excellence in handheld illumination tools that the company changed its name to SureFire LLC.
