Tools and Hardware Reviews of Swylite LST100-W Single Event Digital In-Wall Timer Switch, WhiteCustomer Review: A little quirky. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this unit installed for about seven months and for the most part it seems to work as advertised. The best thing is that it works with the low voltage fluorescent I'm using. The literature says that it won't, but it seems to do OK. That may explain its quirkiness. For no apparent reason, occasionally it will wink out for a few seconds. It can go a month or two without any problems. When I do notice it happening, I review the clock settings, manually turn the light off and on a few times and forget all about it `til the next time it hiccups.
I'm still giving it 4 stars because of the price and it has lasted this long without needing to be replaced. If it fails, I'll update my review. Of special note, it does not automatically adjust for daylight savings time.
Customer Review: I have 4, still going strong after 2 yrs! Summary: 5 Stars
These timers have been a godsend. I installed them to operate the switches that control all of the outside lights (we have 4 of them). The lights go on automatically at night and are off when I wake up. No forgetting to turn them off in the morning, and there's extra security that the other neighbors on the block don't have. Their lights are always off at night, mine are always on, if you were a criminal, which house would you go to? I also installed 35w GE compact fluorescents in each of the sockets with no trouble at all. The only thing that I'd like to have is an automatic daylight savings correction so that I don't have to reprogram the timers every 6 months. oh, well. if that's the only thing, then I think I did pretty good!
Customer Review: Much Better than the "standard" timer switch Summary: 4 Stars
I replaced an Intermatic unit with the Swylite. One needed an advanced degree in electrical engineering in order to program the Intermatic timer, and it was never quite successful. The Swylite was simple to install and I was amazed at how easy it was to program--so easy that I originally thought that I had missed something. But no. Simplicity wins out.
Also, unless you have the fingers of an infant, don't try to program the Intermatic. I had to resort to a stylus from my Palm handheld in order to push the buttons, but when the instructions called for pushing two buttons at once, I was short one stylus (and one hand). The buttons on the Swylite are scaled for a human adult.
Customer Review: Best wall-timer switch available Summary: 4 Stars
Purchased item from maker through Amazon with low $5 shipping. Comes with great installation and operating instructions. Had trouble installing in a 3-gang box due to lots of wiring (not a fault with product).
Only product certified for use with compact flourescent lighting.
Simplicity: single event timer with optional random on/off (15-minute)
Although I've had for only a week, it looks much better made than anything available from Intermatic, the only wall timer brand available from Home Depot. Went through two Intermatic timers. The rocker switch on the Swylite is sturdy while the push button on the Intermatic is cheap and flimsy.
Customer Review: High Quality Switch Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a way to automatically switch my porch light on at night, and off during the day. I gave up trying to wire-in a photosensor to light. This product accomplishes what I need. It's a nice, high quality switch. It's easy to install and and easy to set the timer. The switch works with my compact flourescent bulbs, as advertised. Shipping from Swylite is very fast. As others have noted, the only (minor) drawback is how the wires are attached on right of the unit, rather than the back. This can make for a tight fit depending on your electrical box. I'm very happy with this switch and highly recommend it.
