Tools and Hardware Reviews of Sylvania 29490 23-Watt CFL Mini Twist Light Bulb, Soft White, 6 packCustomer Review: good product, poor packing (for shipping) Summary: 4 Stars
I'm very happy with these lamps, but unfortunately I had to deal with some broken glass. Amazon placed the package just in a cardboard box with some air packs, and 3 of the 6 bulbs were broken when it arrived. They dutifully sent a replacement pack, which was packed in the same manner and suffered the same fate. I took the 3 good bulbs out of each package to end up with the 6 I paid for, but this is a pain. I wouldn't buy them again from here, since I wouldn't want to deal with broken glass and returning the package, etc.
Kind of a shame, since the product itself is really great. They're very bright, and I've replaced nearly all the bulbs in my apartment with them. I haven't noticed any flickering, as can be common with other fluorescents.
Customer Review: Top Quality Summary: 5 Stars
I compared these directly with the GE 23 watt model and slightly prefer these bulbs from Sylvania, because the light is a bit more like natural daylight (3000K Color Temp) than the slightly more yellow GE (2700K), which is more like a traditional incandescent color. There are some studies showing that natural light improves your mood, especially during the winter when there is less daylight. That may be a bit of wishful thinking, but it made me feel good to save a lot of money and use less electricity using a compact fluorescent. These fit readily into standard lamp sockets and turn on quickly. Note: it is not recommended to use any cfl bulb outdoors where exposed to the elements.
Customer Review: Nice and bright but slow to start Summary: 4 Stars
These 23 Watt bulbs really are just as bright as a 100 Watt incandescent bulb, but have a slightly more bluish cast (cooler temperature) than incandescents. Some of the bulbs come on immediately at full brightness; others sometimes take up to a minute to come to full brightness, even when the starting temperatures are exactly the same.
I'm happy with them, but the downside is that the cooler light gives the house an "office building" feeling, as my wife put it. But hopefully worth it when the next electricity bill comes around.
Customer Review: Burnout Summary: 2 Stars
My experience with this Sylvania CFL has been quite poor. Of the 3 bulbs I have purchased, one failed within a month, one failed within less than a year (BTW an incandescent installed in a tandem lamp prior to the CFL is still working) and the third is still working. These bulbs have been used, on average, about 4 hours a day. When they work the 23 watt bulb produces good light. However, as energy efficient as they may be, in my opinion they are not reliable and as a result probably not cost efficient.
Customer Review: Worse than conventional liaght bulbs Summary: 1 Stars
I recently went through the entire house and replaced all interior bulbs with these "Super Savers" BIG MISTAKE! I am going back and replacing the burned out ones more often than conventional incandescent bulbs. The only thing it is maybe saving on is trips to the store to buy more bulbs as I had a few extra on hand. Sylvania can put these where the sun doesn't shine. I hate 'em!! Will never buy these again!
