Customer Review: Great nightlight/flashlight with battery backup

This item does exactly what it's supposed to. It's a nightlight that automatically turns on in the case of a power failure. It can also be used as a regular flashlight.
As a nightlight, the light sensor is a lot better than a couple of old nightlights I have. They would come on much earlier than needed, and would sometimes come on at night even when I had room lights on. The Sylvania waits till it's much darker (though not too dark). Having the lights fire down also means the light is less distracting that classic nightlights throwing light in all directions. And the Sylvania does not block the 2nd power outlet.
I haven't been through a power failure yet, but I tested it by simply unplugging it from the outlet, which caused it to come on as expected. As people have noted, it flashes when the power goes out. Some folks complain about this, but I think it's a nice way to let you know it's not just in night light mode, but that the power's out. And as soon as you pick it up and hit the button, it stops blinking.
As far as being a flashlight, no it's not as bright as a "full flashlight", but it's more than adequate for walking around the house or taking for a walk down the street. After all, being a flashlight is not it's main purpose.
Highly recommended, I'll be buying more for other parts of the house.
