I may be missing something but I don't see much ongoing value to these lights based on my experience so far. It almost seems the product I received isn't the same one others reviewed. They look identical to the one pictured, but have problems I didn't see mentioned by others. First, let me say that the lights work as described, but have issues I wasn't expecting. If I'd only bought one light, I'd assume I got sort of a dud, but I bought three for different purposes and have the same problems with each.
I put one unit in my rather deep linen closet where there is no light source otherwise and I can't see things toward the back. The problem is the light will only activate when I close the door! Granted there is some light in the hallway where the closet is located. It's not enough to illuminate the closet, but apparently is too much for this light to function when the door is open. Clearly, the light isn't going to help me in there. I also put one in my pantry. Same problem. I placed the third in the garage and that one seems to be serving the intended purpose at night when it's pitch dark in there.
I wanted motion sensitive lights in the closets because I was perpetually forgetting to turn off the manual lights I'd been using causing their batteries to run out quickly. I guess I should have looked for lights that weren't geared for use only in complete darkness. While that was my mistake, there is another beef I have with these lights.
Once the light is mounted, I can't see how you can change the batteries. It appears that the light has to be taken down to get good access to the battery compartment. If the light itself is supposed to release from the mounting piece, I was unable to figure out how either through various maneuvers or with force. The little folder that comes with the product only includes warnings in various languages, no directions, nor are there any on the package that address this.
If the light is mounted via the magnet on the back, removing it isn't a problem, but if mounted via the included sticky pad, it is a problem because the pad in only effective once. Of course you can mount the light with screws (none were included with any of the lights I received), but you must use very small ones and the mounting holes are not easy to access. Obviously, I'm not crazy about having to unscrew the light to change the batteries and then remount it. In drywall, of course, you won't even be able to do that more than once or twice before the stripped holes won't support the light anymore.
Perhaps the supplied set of batteries will last for a very long time, but I wonder, especially considering one unit I received had the switch set to `auto' instead of `off' inside the blister pack and was coming on in the packed box as it was jostled. I have no way of knowing how much of the battery power had already been used.
Since the two lights I'd hoped to use in the closets will have to be put somewhere else, the sticky pads are already ruined. I'm hoping some two-sided tape will work, since I hesitate to use screws until I'm sure the new positions will be useful. All in all, I'm disappointed in this purchase. I suggest careful consideration of where the lights are to be used before buying--both accessibility for remounting as needed and ambient light in the space. They aren't terribly bright but do illuminate the immediate area and can be swiveled a small amount as well, but won't work well if they sense other light in the area, i.e. may come on but will go off immediately.
