I purchased this Sylvania timer as a controller for a SunTouch electric subfloor heating system installed under bathroon tile. I'd previously used the Intermatic SS7C timer, a comparable high voltage timer with a mechanical switching device prone to failure (2 out of the 3 I've purchased have failed at 12 months; based on reviews here and elsewhere, this is common). I was looking for a timer that could cycle 2X daily and was led to believe that this timer's "4 programming options" would allow for multiple on/off cycles in a day, similar to the Intermatic. Not so. Indeed, there are 4 programs, but each program allows only a single on/off cycle.
Nice solid state product with no mechanical switches to fail, straightforward to install, but not designed as a multi-cycle timer.
If perhaps I'm dense and the SA170 does allow you to program multi-cycles, would you kindly post a reply here. Thanks, Le Flaneur

This switch is good looking and very easy to use. The ZIP-set feature is especially useful if you use it to control outdoor lighting - it calculates the sunset time and turns on automatically at dusk. No more manual resets throughout the year. Installation is easy and the instructions are clear. It switches compact fluorescent (CF) bulbs.
However read this VERY CAREFULLY before you purchase this switch: it needs to be connected to a NEUTRAL wire. Many 2-pole light switches only switch the hot wire of the circuit and you may not be able to find the necessary neutral wire to connect this. Look into your junction box to confirm the presence of the neutral wire if you are replacing and existing switch. If you find only 2 wires of the same color connected to and around the old switch, you probably won't be able to swap in this one (or any other CF-capable digital timer switch) without rewiring the circuit.

Switch looks good BUT it doesn't do what they say it will. I pulled my old single pole switch -wired as directed and I couldn't turn the lamp off or on with the switch. I then contacted tech support-what a joke ! They told me I must have a three-way switch set up( I do not). At that point I said lets send this back- Amazon was wonderful in that regard.Customer Review: Finally a 7 day timer switch that works.

I have tried others and this is the only 7 day programmable that I have bought again. It works. Saves its program during power outage. Mount it where you can get close, seeing the small print on the little screen for programming is tough.
