Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain RWA-300R Wireless Alert System

Customer Review: So Far...So Good
Summary: 4 Stars

Had the device for a year now and still works properly. Followed the instructions to a T and installed according to the mounting illustration and recommended suggestions. Added one feature to make it last longer - placed a clear plastic multi-purpose storage bag around the motion sensor unit to keep wasps from building a nest and other bugs, dirt and rain from getting in the sensor's opening and secured the loose ends of the plastic bag with a bread tie. Also placed the antenna in a downward / vertical position through a hole I made in the plastic bag. The base station (inside the house near the window) is in a direct line (without outside obstructions in-between) to the motion sensor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to work and lasts a long time. After all, it is made in the great U.S. of A !!

Customer Review: Does not have stated range.
Summary: 3 Stars

I got one of these units to install on my front gate 300 feet from my house. On the box it states that the system has a range of up to 900 feet. That is just not so. I installed the sensor on the gate and took the base unit into the house. I watched as my wife pulled into the driveway and heard no alarm. I took the receiver out on the front porch in line of site to the motion sensor and had her drive out. Still nothing.
I then moved the base station out in the driveway to within 250 feet of the sensor and it worked if in line of site. It will not of there is anything between the units. To say the least I am disappointed. The only way it will work for me is to mount the motion sensor 50 feet up my driveway and the base station in an open window. With in 200 feet it works fine.

Customer Review: buyer beware!

rw-300R - CHAMBERLAIN driveway sensor. Unfortunately, there is no option to give "no stars," which would be more valid. For my unit, the sensor's detection range is <15 feet. The range of transmission of the sensor to the receiver (base unit) is ~70 feet PROVIDED that both are outdoors. Transmission to the receiver from the sensor could not be established if the receiver was in the house, where, of course, you would want it to be. I followed all directions, I already thououghly understand how PIR sensors work and how to optimize them, batteries were new etc. This is all too similar to the Chamberlain long range garage door opener I once bought which only worked if I transmitted from inside the garage. In my opinion, this is a very disappointing item! Unit will be returned.

Customer Review: Great System
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this system to cover hidden areas in my outer yard which can't really be helped by light sensors, etc.. The system has worked perfectly from day one. Now if someone hops over the back fence that is behind my garage and shed area to retrieve a lost ball (or whatever) the alarm goes off. My other sensor covers a small side area next to my home and when the beam is crossed by anyone (such as the gas meter reader or perhaps someone who might attempt to break in through a side window) the alarm goes off. The alarm is loud enough that I can hear it go off anywhere in the house. I love it. There have been very few false alarms and if there have been it has been caused by either a squirrel or stray cat that has somehow leaped across the beam area.

Customer Review: Chamberlain must have changed the electronics....
Summary: 1 Stars

Based on the good reviews on this product, we bought a system and several sensors this winter. I spent a week trying to make them work, and exchanged them twice, thinking I may have had a bad unit. I could never get more than 100' feet of distance, making the units useless for our purpose. I returned them the final time, and bought a sub $20 unit (similar to the Driveway Patrol unit), and got almost 400' of distance down the driveway, which is enough unit I can find enough positive reviews for some more expensive models.

Sadly, these recent units made by Chamberlain are not worth the money spent, and they will not achieve the range advertised, even in perfect line-of-sight conditions, at least for the three sets I tried.
