Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain RWA-300R Wireless Alert SystemCustomer Review: I would buy it again in a heartbeat! Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned two other driveway alarms before this one (different brands). I wouldn't take the other two driveway alarms that I owned prior to this one even if you gave it to me. Therefore, I have some knowledge in driveway alarms.
My sister owned this alarm and I was impressed with it. I asked her if she liked it and she said she did. She said she never got a false alarm. She also uses it in her dining room to keep her dogs off of her rug. After hearing her recommendation, I decided to buy one and give this alarm a chance. I am glad I did. I live in the country and we have deer, dogs, cats, etc. roaming around. I set the alarm on large animals and turned it on. I have been pleased so far. It goes off when someone walks down our private drive, drives down the drive and it goes off when a deer crosses in front of it. I am extremely pleased and would recommend this driveway alarm to anyone. With prior driveway alarms, it would go off when the wind blew too hard, a bird crossed its path, and I can't prove it but I would say just because it wanted to go off.
I would recommend this alarm to anyone and would buy it again if something happened to ours.
Customer Review: Overpriced but it works Summary: 4 Stars
I was very skeptical about purchasing this unit given all of the negative reviews it has received. I ultimately decided to give it a try and figured I could return it if it did not work, as Amazon is usually very good at returns. When I first received it and opened the box, my first thought was that it is extremely overpriced. There is not much to the product and it is very cheaply made. I'm guessing it probably costs them $5 to produce this. It immediately gave me the feeling that they are overcharging for this just because it is a "security" device. Can't put a price on your security and safety, right!?!?!? Once I got past that, the product does actually work well. I mounted the sensor at the rear of my property approximately 200 feet from the base station. I am getting alarms at the base station without any issues. I am also impressed with the fact that the sensor does not trigger many false alarms. In the three days that I have had it installed, it has only gone off two times and I'm guessing it was caused by a raccoon or deer running by. Squirrels and moving trees and bushes do not set the sensor off. Time well only tell though how long the product lasts.
Customer Review: IT WORKS!! Kinda. Needs modification Summary: 3 Stars
I've been having this for over a year. Placed transmitter at the end of my carport (about 50' away) and would work fine. Purchased second transmitter and placed it at the end of my driveway (about 150' away) that one would never set off receiver... too far away I guess, UNTIL. I had about 50ft of 18awg stranded and insulated wire and wrapped it neatly and tightly around an big old rusty chisel. Hammered chisel into post that has transmitter screwed to. Connected the "chisel antenna" to the antenna of the transmitter and who'd of thunk it... IT WORKS FINE NOW. I haven't had a false alarm. Most recent event, A car pulled in and set off alarm and then leaves. The alarm is connected to a dvr which has a camera pointed at the entrance of the driveway. Alarm goes off, I look at monitor and see nothing after playback I see the car. I'm very excited that it works now, too bad it needs a little help to function reliably. I still think I'm going to check out dakota alerts wma-3000 next. It has 4 relays instead of the one the chamberlain supplies. Hope this is helpful and gets out to those who purchased this and were very dissapointed with its range as I was.
Customer Review: The Reporter -vs- Chamberlain wireless driveway alert RWA300R Summary: 1 Stars
I just replaced my Reporter driveway alarm and purchased the same one because I was impressed with the service it provided. After mounting the new (Chamberlan) alert in the same location as the Reporter, I noticed the new sensor is not transmitting to the same range, actually not a 1/10th of the range as the old Reporter did. I took the unit back to where I purchased it and they exchanged it with another one. The replacement is doing the same as the first. I noticed the name has changed from my older driveway alert and I'm not impressed with the quality of my new alert. What's Changed? I contacted Chamberlain Technical and they basically told me that it's not going to do what I needed it to do. So, I'm just out $80.00. I asked if I could send it in so they could check it out and he said no, the first one you had did the same so it not the equipment, it's just not going to do what you need. I asked why reporter did and this one won't, he told me it must be some goverment requirement changes. The reporter was transmitting about ~300 feet the new chamberlain wont even transmit 30 foot consistantly. I would not recommend this product.
Customer Review: REPORTER INFRARED MOTION SENSOR Summary: 5 Stars
I BOUGHT TWO TRANSMITTERS AND TWO RECEIVERS TWO YEARS AGO. THE TRICK TO GETTING THIS TO WORK PROPERLY IS ALKALINE BATTERIES, KEEP BOTH ANTENNAS EXACTLY VERTICAL AND KEEP THE TRANSMITTER DRY.
TO DO THIS I PAINTED THE TRANSMITTER SEAL ALL AROUND, AND THE SCREWS WITH LATEX PAINT WITH A Q-TIP, BEFORE CLOSING THE CASE, AND MOUNTED IT IN A INDEX CARD FILE BOX WITH A HOLE CUT IN THE FRONT FOR THE SENSOR, AND ANGLED IT DOWN ABOUT 12 DEGREES TO LET RAIN WATER DRAIN AWAY FROM THE TRANSLUCENT LENS.
PAINT THE SCREWS HEADS TO KEEP THEM FROM RUSTING. LATEX PAINT ON METAL WILL FRACTURE WHEN YOU NEED TO OPEN THE CASE.
I AM GOING TO BUY TWO MORE FROM AMAZON, AS I UNDERSTAND THE LIMITATIONS.
WHAT MAKES THIS UNIT "THE" UNIT IS THE RELAY, WHICH HAS TWO "FLAG" CONNECTORS ON THE BACK. NORMALLY OPEN ... MOMENTARY CLOSE ON ALARM
IF YOU WANT TO YOU CAN CONNECT A FIREHOUSE ALARM BELL TO IT. WITH A SWITCH, I CAN HEAR IT WHEN I AM WORKING IN THE BACK YARD.
WITH A LATCHING RELAY YOU COULD START A CAMERA ETC.
