Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain RWA-300R Wireless Alert System

Customer Review: The reporter's review
Summary: 3 Stars

The Reporter is a great idea and works most of the time but it seems a lot like a prototype of something that could be really good. It needs to be modernized from top to bottom. It is a little pricey for something so basic. It takes longer to set up than you would like and some setting changes require the remote sensor to be taken apart (with a screwdriver) to change settings on tiny poorly labeled switches. You must use the printed directions that came with the unit to make sense of what you are changing. loose the directions and you will have no idea what the switches do. In my case the remote sensor is 100' down the driveway on a tree. Four trips to that tree with a screwdriver and the directions and I finally got it right. Although it has a "NEW!" mute button feature, it has no volume control and no choice in alert tones or warning lighting. If Hallmark can make a birthday card that sings when you open it, this unit has to come up to speed.

Customer Review: Caught a thief with this
Summary: 5 Stars

Works perfectly. We had a thief that kept stealing items from our cars and garage. Bought this and one additional sensor. Put one outside near our gate and one in the garage pointing down over the door so it couldn't be seen by someone opening the door. Took the base station upstairs and had it on when we went to bed each night . . . we were awakened at 5 am by a single beep from the first sensor, got to the window in time to see the thief enter our garage and heard the double beep of the second sensor. He was a little surprised to walk out of the garage and be confronted by myself and my son with baseball bats . . . held him until the police arrived (took only 3 minutes!)

Signal went through 5 walls for one sensor and 3 for the other and had no problem. The beep is a little loud, but we just wrapped it in a towel to muffle it. Easy to use, works just like description, and cheap. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Chamberlain #RWA-300R Not Like Reporter #RWA-300R
Summary: 1 Stars

We originally had a Reporter #RWA-300R wireless alert system that did in fact transmit a signal as far as 1200 ft. This was important as our house has poured concrete perimeter walls from slab to roof line as we live in hurricane prone Louisiana. It worked fine till it needed replacing. Our driveway sensor was about 130 ft from the receiver (not in line of sight) and alerted just fine. Replaced with the Chamberlain that obviously bought out Reporter. The description shown states what it said for the old Reporter, HOWEVER, the Chamberlain system couldn't receive a transmitted signal 100 ft, EVEN in direct line of sight. Obviously Chamberlain has made some adjustments to the system that we cannot use.

We had no problem with the original Reporter #RWA-300R system but the Chamberlain #RWA-300R system just doesn't cut it, so we ordered a completely different long range, more powerful driveway alert system.

Customer Review: Reporter Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

Installed The "The Reporter" Wireless Alert System
1 week ago,(Oct 07) about 15 feet from driveway on a wooden fence post, four (4) feet above the ground. The side of the post that the reporter is mounted on directly faces the driveway. Turned the reporter as far to one side as possible, away from the street/road towards the house.

The post is about 8 feet away from a busy, 45mph roadway.

The receiver is about 500 feet away in my house.

It works! Every time. I recommend this. Will see how it works over the winter, and update this review if any problems arise.

Update Jan 25, 2009. No problems, after 1 year 3 months, it is still working great. Have not yet replaced the battery. I did originlly use a high quality battery for "cameras" a 9 volt.

Customer Review: Don't buy this product...
Summary: 1 Stars

Bottom line on this one...I spoke with Chamberlain before I returned this back to Amazon. A supervisor flat out told me that after they bought out the original company the FCC told them that the sensor didn't meet regulations and they had to "modify things". These modifications mow reduced the effective range from the advertised 900ft to maybe if you are lucky just over 100ft. The supervisor even told me to return the item back to Amazon for a refund. So if a 50ft range works for you then have at it. But the box and the instructions still state a 900ft range which is absolutely false according to Chamberlain. They claim that there should be a disclaimer in the box, but there was none in my box. I believe that Amazon should also be on notice and state this info.

Anyway, I would advise that if you want to be alerted when a vehicle is more than 50ft from your house, don't buy this product.
