Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain RWA-300R Wireless Alert System

Customer Review: Reporter Wireless Alert System
Summary: 4 Stars

This system operates as advertised. Four sending units provide complete coverage for the entire perimeter of my home. Each unit sends a unique signal to the receiver alerting me to the exact location of an intruder. No false alerts occurred during the four weeks since I installed the system. A button on the receiver allows me to disarm the system when my grandchildren are playing outside in my yard. The Reporter is an inexpensive enhancement that provides an addition level of protection to my internal, professionally installed, security alarm system.

Update: The receiver unit for this system failed after only several weeks of use. Two of the sending units also failed to send a signal to the receiver. Fresh batteries did not correct the defects. Unit returned for full refund. Amazon.com return procedure is OUTSTANDING!

Customer Review: Gets The Job Done
Summary: 5 Stars

Having had a brand new set of cordless power tools stolen from our garage, we wanted to make sure we were aware when someone walked into our garage from then on and NOT have the alarm set off by our pet dog or cats. "The Reporter" gets the job done. We purchased a base station receiver with a motion sensor and an extra motion sensor. This way both the garage door and the back door to our garage are protected. It's inexpensive and easy to install. No wires to run. We like it so much we purchased a second base station receiver with motion sensor to install in our utility barn. Now we have a base station receiver in our kitchen and our bedroom. Our garage and utility barn are protected. If any of the three motion sensors detected movement both base stations receivers sound of the alert. "The Reporter" gets the job done to our liking.

Customer Review: "The Reporter" reports, sometimes
Summary: 4 Stars

I affixed the reporter to a tree trunk a few feet from my driveway so that it would alert me of vehicles driving up. For some reason, it almost never detects certain cars, and always detects others. This could be because I need to aim the unit lower (maybe the signal passes through the windows and doesn't pick up the thinner opaque parts on the upper part of the car?), but I didn't want it picking up animals going by.
One other problem that I have is that the batteries seem to last only a month or so. And the alarm is pretty loud - you don't want it in the same room with you while you sleep unless you really want it to wake you up!
When The Reporter is working, it seems to work well and will send the signal over a long distance as advertised. It's a good deal for the low price, but I wouldn't trust it completely.

Customer Review: It's workin 100% again - 2nd Update from "Dan on the farm"
Summary: 5 Stars

THis is a second review and an update to my previous review written By "Dan on the Farm" in Oct 04.

About 48 hrs after I had the intial problems of it being intermitent, it started working again and has been about 99% effective since then. The only times that it misses a few alerts is on a REALLY foggy, damp, misty condition. Almost like it can't transmit through the pea soup. But other than that, it works great. It just had that 24 hr period in October when it became unreliable.

Today is 14 Jan, 05 and the temp here is -1 F. Works great even in these low temps. Had it about 6 months now and am very pleased. Again, our radio shack in central Illinois has it for around $75. Good luck and email if you have questions: 60745@myswa.com

Customer Review: I have 2 of these items.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have 2 of the Reporters, one at home and another at camp. I bought the one for home intending to use it at camp then I decided to mount it near my deer feeding station. So now we know when the deer have come to feed and don't miss watching them. So I bought another for camp and it is about 300 feet through woods from the sender to the receiver. It works flawlessly though once in a while we'll notice it doesn't announce and it can go off from leaves and birds passing by. There are others that will only detect heavy metal objects like vehicles. Make sure you choose which you need before buying one as the false alarms are a nuisance. I agree with one reviewer who said the noise was loud and obnoxous and has no volume control. Otherwise this has been a dependable product for years with few battery replacements, maybe one each.
