Tools and Hardware Reviews of Twirl-a-Tie Tie Rack/Organizer

Customer Review: Works as advertised, but it's wider than I expected
Summary: 4 Stars

When I first pulled this thing out of the box (it comes in two pieces that you must snap together), I wondered if I had just wasted $5. It's made of the same type of plastic that many clothes hangers use and probably costs all of $0.10 to produce. But I snapped the pieces together, loaded the rack completely full of ties, and darn if it doesn't do the job just fine.

I disagree with the reviewer who gave this one star. Fully loaded, it is solid and rotates fine to help you access any of your ties. It is not imbalanced fully loaded, although if you only had a few ties to hang on it, I think you would need to space them out to keep the rack from tipping.

One caveat: This rack is a bit wide as it hangs in your closet. I didn't quite realize just how wide it would be from looking at the picture. I have another type of tie rack that looks like a clothes hanger and holds the ties beneath it in a straight row on tiny hangers. The Twirl-a-Tie is at least twice as wide as that one. I measured the diameter, and the Twirl-a-Tie is 4 1/4" wide. It takes up about as much space as two or three suits hanging next to each other. If closet space is at a premium for you, you might want to consider a narrower type of rack. Also, if this rack is crammed into a stuffed closet, the clothes on either side will impede the rack's ability to rotate the ties around. On the plus side, however, it's easier for me to see and access my ties with the Twirl-a-Tie than with my other rack. The width issue aside, the Twirl-a-Tie is a good value and works as advertised.

Customer Review: Defective Design. Broken in less than 4 months.
Summary: 1 Stars

Granted these tie rack organizers were pretty cheap, so I went in to the purchase with pretty low expectations. I really didn't need a complicated electronic tie selector or anything overly complex. Unfortunately, I was disappointed even given the considerations I made prior to purchase. This design has a fundamental flaw. The hook fits into the rotating disk by a plastic prong. Over a period of about 2 months, using the organizer 4-5 days a week, the plastic prong has worn down. This allowed the disc to detach from the hook. It's no longer able to hold up the weight of the rack of ties without popping out. Your options at this point are either super-glue the two pieces together (and lose the rotation ability) or simply throw it away. I can not recommend it for purchase, unless you are only using it once a week or so. It's definitely not suitable for anyone who wears ties daily to work.

Customer Review: Hard to Believe
Summary: 5 Stars

This item had some great reviews. I had been using two flat (2 dimensional) tie organizers that work fairly well but the comments about this organizer (coupled with the price) made me commit. When it (they--I bought two) arrived I was not impressed as it was in a 6" x 5" x 1/2" box. I was a little sarcastic with myself over it. It just seemed cheap. Once however I pulled my head out, and opened the box I was really amazed. The hook and the wheel snap together. Again, this seems a little hoaky, but when they are put together the wheel spins like it has bearings. It's really hard to believe. ALL of the ties from BOTH of the other organizers fit on one of these little dynamos. The hook is large enough to fit a variety of closet rods and the functionality is just superb. Pretty amazing for a five buck rack! If I had 20 more ties I'd by another in an instant!

Customer Review: Don't buy this rack, go for another one
Summary: 1 Stars

I had very high expectations for this rack, since I have a lot of ties and didn't have any proper storage for them, sadly, I had to go into the market looking for another, as this one couldn't do the job.

Short story: this rack can't stand the weight for which it was designed.

Long story: This rack is made of two pieces that snap together, a design flaw that probably was made with the purpose of allowing the rack to spin and maybe to make its packaging easier, however, the fact that it has two pieces, with nothing to hold it together but the very same plastic form the hook that snaps into the carrousel, as a result of all this, when you put one tie in each of the hangers, as intended, after one or two minutes the carrousel loosens from the hook, and falls to the ground along with all the ties.

Customer Review: Handy Organizer I Use for My Necklaces
Summary: 4 Stars

****
I use this clever little gadget to store necklaces in my closet so that I can grab one to wear with my clothes. The Twirl-a-Tie works well for my necklaces as long as they're somewhat balanced around the rack--which they are since I only wear one or two at a time. The gadget is pretty simple--two pieces of plastic that easily snap together--and I think you're paying more for the idea than for the gadget itself. It's a simple but useful idea, too!

Ties would be more stable than necklaces of course (but then I don't wear ties) and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these for the man in my life. I wouldn't probably get it as a gift though because although it's very functional it does look as though it probably is worth only a couple of dollars.

Recommended.
