Tools and Hardware Reviews of Tersano lotus LBU100 Sanitizing System

Customer Review: Solid
Summary: 5 Stars

Before buying this thing I did my research and came away skeptical. I was not sure it was worth the money, especially after reading what Consumer Reports had to say about it. I waited a bit but then figured I would give it a shot.

I am very, very happy that I did.

Its been about a three months now and I have to say that the unit does its job and does it exceedingly well. I had two problems but each were due to my inexperience with the machine- and both were quickly resolved by some really good tech support people at Tersano. They tell you how to fix the problem and then go further to explain how the machine works and why the issue occurred in the first place.

You simply can't do better if you want clean food. I have done some interesting experiments- your fruit and vegatables will last longer and fish will taste better. I kid you not- this thing really works. When I come home from shopping I stick in my veggies and fruit, if they are really dirty I have to do them twice. You have to remember, the machine's goal is clean food. If you give it real dirty stuff it will keep "scrubbing" away till it is ready to eat. At first I was annoyed that I had to perform a cycle twice. Then I got to thinking about how dirty the stuff actually was. I changed the water and let it start up again.

Sometimes I run the machine with just the tap water in there. Once it is pure (100%) I'll stick in raw meats, fish or shrimp before cooking it- takes two minutes. The difference will REALLY surprise you- and it isn't just taste but the way your body digest the food that you will notice.

As for expandable parts... I use mine just about everyday and have yet to replace the cartridge in the back. It comes with this little spary bottle and towels which I use occassionally but not that much so I can't lend much of an opinion. It does make my trash compactor smell better though.

All in all I am 100% satisfied with this product and feel that it was worth the money I spent on it.

Customer Review: Do your research before taking the plunge

Before I start, I have to state that I do not own this product and merely want to make a comment on the general state of this technology. As I am obiligated to rate this item per Amazon review rule, I am give it a neutral "3" and this rating in no way reflects positively or negatively on what I think of this particular product.

Using ozone to sanitize food product is in fact a proven technology as advertised, and it has been used to treat water and food for decades. There is no doubt that this technology works! I am sure you can find many articles discussing this and the technology has been patented as well. I personally think it is a wonderful idea as it functions without leaving any traces unlike normal disfectants but consumers should consider some of the possible drawbacks.

First and foremost, as a scientist myself, I'd love to find out how this product is generating ozone so easily, and I am sure they are guarding this as a trade secret. (Background: ozone is normally made by essentially electrifying oxygen, a process that consumes a tremendous amount of power. Think the smell in the air after a lightening storm, that's it.) So how long and how much power does it take this system to create a batch of ozone water? And just how much ozone is generated? I ask this not to cast doubt on this system but because ozone is an irrantant to skin and your respiratory system and typically recognized as a toxic gas. So too much may not be a good thing.

Secondly, ozone has a rather short life span, so you can't just make it and use it later. How short you ask? About 15 minutes at room temperature when dissolved in water. It's longer at colder temperature and shorter at hotter temperature. And after that, what you have it just the water you start with (minus the germs of course).

I am not here to endorse nor bad-mouth this product, but merely to present facts and hope someone who has their hands on this system will do a comprehensive review on just how effectively it works.

Customer Review: FANTASTIC PRODUCT, I USE IT CONSTANTLY
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought both units from Costco. I had a lot of problems with the water processor. I rarely did with this one, once I learned how to use it properly. READ! READ! READ!

IF you have any problems Tersano is FANTASTIC about repairing and promptly returning, shipping paid both ways, with a pick up by UPS or FedEx, I don't remember which. Actually they sometimes returned an extra pitchers in the box. I sent it in 3 or 4 times and they were great every time. I finally returned that one to Costco.
This one I haven't had to send in I just can't remember where I put my spare Booster Cartridges. I found the most error msgs. I got with this unit was when the water level was on the line or Below. If I overfilled it, it seemed to be less of a problem. If you need a new cartridge you will get an F1 error. That means it is taking too long to process. Just READ & Follow the Instructions. Fantastic Unit.

Tersano says not to drink this water but to get the other processor for drinking water, I Wonder Why? I have found I can take filtered water from my refrigerator, process it, let it sit for at least 15 minutes and then drink. JUST DON'T Drink Too Soon, 15 min. +++. I use the spray bottle minus the top to make it easier to process my drinking water. I may buy a Pur countertop filter to put it in after processing and see if that is even better. Sometimes the Ozone taste is a little strong but I don't mind it as it disapates with time. I like having the water treated.
ONE MORE Thing, DO NOT push down too hard or you will eventually loosen the part in the bottom of the spray bottle. I ruined a new spray bottle, it came apart. Put it on with a little pressure firm, Not a Lot. Have it on the correct setting, depending on which unit you're using, and you'll do Fine. You Will Love It as Many Others Do Also as I have been reading.

I am going on about 1 & 1/2 years of use now and I still Love It! If it died completely I would Buy Another One Immediately.

Customer Review: F4 errors? SOLVED! helps get safer food, home, planet. Actually doable $$wise
Summary: 5 Stars

PLEASE READ if you constantly get F4 errors- this trick solves it in seconds once and for all!

-------- Credit to the Doctor reviewer on the first Product page for this tip-

Other reviewers have mentioned getting an error code when trying to use the Lotus system. I have also had error codes in two situations, but I figured out how to deal with them.

The first error code I have encountered occurs when there is no water in the base. During processing, water circulates between the base and the attachment you have chosen (either the bowl or the spray bottle). Between uses, clean water remains in the base unit. However, when you are first starting out, or if you have emptied the base unit, it takes time to get water into the base unit. This is when I have had an F4 error code. I remove the attachment, fill the blue reservoir on the base with water, and then put the empty bowl on the base unit. Using a large measuring cup, I pour cool tap water directly over the valve system in the bottom of the bowl to get water to go through the valve into the base. Then I turn on the processing cycle and see if it will go. If not, I repeat these steps until it does. Normally you do not have to worry about this, because clean water will be left in the base between uses. -end

I wasted WAY too much time and frustration w/ this issue, even Tersanos own tech support couldn't offer a solution that worked, although they are very nice and tried to help!

Seriously, just follow the good Dr.'s advice exactly and you'll be good to go in under a minute and error free thereafter- at least w/the F4's, that is ;-).

I KNOW this will help others ready to send it back out of frustration... This quick fix info should be BOLDLY stated on the machine, manual, website, everywhere!

Thanks for a great product that really does do as promised after I almost doubted so...

Customer Review: A response from the company
Summary: 5 Stars

Rest assured, our product uses an FDA approved process, is EPA approved and has full CSA - C/US approval. Our unit does not produce enough 'ozone' to convert bromide to bromate. The University of Florida tested for this very reaction and concluded that we produce zero bromates. This problem is more associated to municipalities and bottled water companies as they have elaborate systems that product up to 5x the amount of ozone we do. Also, you are talking more about a drinking water application which this product is NOT. We are using an FDA approved process for sanitizing fruits and vegatables. Part of the UL process is to test for ozone emmissions into the air. Our unit adds less than 1ppb (that is 1 part per billion) of ozone to the air in your home, which is well below the 50ppb allowable single dosage limit. What most consumers probably don't know is that if you were to take a reading right now in your home, you probably have around 15ppb of ozone in the air as it is. That is because mother nature is always trying to rid pollutants from our environment. This is still what I don't understand, if people are so concerned about cancer, which we all are, then why don't all consumers eliminate chemical cleaners from their homes? Janitors in the workplace use rubber gloves and sometimes other protective equipment, yet at home we use all sorts of chemical cleaners without thinking twice of why our eyes are watering after we just cleaned the shower. We have various restaurant chains and gyms looking at our product for this very reason, the sooner we all reduce our exposure to chemicals the healthier we will all be! Any questions pertaining to the safety of our product? Please call us at 1-800-808-1724 and we will gladly help you with your concerns.
