Tools and Hardware Reviews of Tersano lotus LWT100 Water Treatment SystemCustomer Review: I Love this Machine! Summary: 5 Stars
I live in Los Angeles where the water from the tap tastes like bleach. I used to buy 2.5 gallon containers of water every week. I have tried Brita and I guess I just have a picky palette because I still preferred bottled water. That is until now. The water treated by the machine tastes like bottled water, it has almost no taste at all. And the water is almost sweet tasting. I know the price of the treatment system is off putting, but it is well worth it and I do not have to lug water to my car then from my car to my condo. The machine does make a hummimg noise when it is in operation, and a louder sound when the water is dispensed, but it takes less than ten minutes to process a half a gallon of water. I consider this an investment which will "pay for itself" since I no longer have to buy water from the local Vons/Ralphs.
Update: I bought the replacement filter, just in case, and it says on the box that it will last for 365 gallons. I don't know if I drink a gallon of water a day, but $40 per year for a filter is okay by me.
Update 2 (11/17/06): I have read "Snappy's" review and I find several things in the review to be just incredible:
1. "The unit itself is quite large and dwarfed everything else in my kitchen." The unit is a little bigger than a coffee maker. Much smaller than my refrigerator which is also in my kitchen.
2. "However the water made my tongue tingle and I developed a headache and a rash on my chest the very next day!" First of all, in Snappy's profile, he lives in Chicago, and I have family in Chicago, and the water from the tap tastes great. If I lived in Chicago I would not need the treatment system. Second, headache and rash on chest. I have been drinking the processed water since August and I have not had a single headache or a rash which could be attributed to the treatment system. In fact I have had no rashes ever.
I wouldn't be writing a reply if I didn't love the product. I have reviewed other things on Amazon, and have given good reviews and bad ones as well. Look at Snappy's reviews. You be the judge.
Customer Review: Love it but nothing lasts forever... Summary: 4 Stars
Am getting ready to purchase my 4th unit so, obviously, I love it and consider it to be a necessity for my family. My only complaint (and this is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5) is that they only last for an average of 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 years (for me, anyway). One of the units went bad in the first 6 mos. and Tersano replaced it with no problems. Still, if you compute the cost of bottled water, for drinking and cooking, plus the convenience, it's worth replacing the units when they stop working.
I have had problems with the processing caraffes leaking and have purchased several replacements directly from Tersano. Still, eventually, the units just stop working.
But, when they do work, the water is fantastic. Our municipal water is downright nasty, both in taste as well as appearance. In fact, the water leaves an orangish residue at the water level line in the processing caraffes and perhaps the muck in the water is causing the units to stop working.
I like the idea that one part of the unit sanitizes the water, while the other part filters it. This thing removes the nasty stench from our water and the water is slightly sweet (from the coconut filter, I assume).
New kitchen toys are always popular and I will admit that I like to have new toys but I consider this one to be a necessity. It enables us to be kind to the environment, too, by reusing and refilling our plastic water bottles.
They are out of stock right now, both at Amazon and directly from Tersano, so I'm buying bottled water until I can find one. Hopefully a warranty will be available.
Customer Review: My own bottled-water factory Summary: 5 Stars
We all know bottled-water is just wrong but we don't like the taste of our tap water. This is more than a filter, it is a unbelievably great-tasting water maker. Don't ask me the differences between a filter and a purifier but ask anybody that has drank water in my house and they will tell you this is simply the best water they have ever had. Simple to use, no plumbing required and no tracking how many months it's been since the last filter change. The lotus tells you when to change the filter. I haven't seen this indicator light up yet because it's supposed to last 1 to 2 years or about 700 uses. This system is comparable to your Reverse Osmosis, UV or Distillation systems, but the beauty of using ozone is that it leaves all of the minerals in the water. Minerals like potassium, calcium and magnesium which is what makes your water taste great!! Simple to use, even my kids can do it. You don't have to sit there and watch one drop at a time go through the filter, it is actually pretty neat, you get to see bubbles so you know its working and doing something and then it pumps it through this filter that doesn't rattle when you shake it (you filter guys know what I mean)!! I've had this system for over a year now and couldn't live without it, and, I haven't had to resort to buying bottled-water so I feel like I'm doing my little part to save our planet!
Customer Review: Mine released OZONE into the air. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought elsewhere. Water did taste better BUT I have asthma. My asthma got worse & I could smell ozone when I ran the machine. I got an ozone test kit & put test strip about foot from the top of the machine; test from the IAACM-[...]. Test confirmed unsafe ozone levels. Later I saw Consumer Reports explain their test results of ozone being released was the reason it was listed as unsafe/ do not buy. I stopped using the Lotus water treatment & my asthma is much better. I was very upset b/c it has the water quality association gold seal, passed both NSF 42/ 53 tests, & filter lasts 300 gal. BUT IT DOES RELEASE OZONE so don't buy it if you value your lungs! Even if my unit was defective,it is too much of a hassle to keep getting ozone test kits to check if a unit is o.k. Look at Consumer Report user reviews, etc. to see others have ozone issues too. There is a pitcher purifier but filter ($8 ea) last only 40 gallons, so lots of filters in the trash. Reverse osmosis can waste water & takes lots of under counter/ sink space. Still looking for a water PURIFIER not a water filter system that I can manage myself.
Customer Review: Great, reliable water system Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this water filter system for over 3 years and I can't imagine living without it - it's easy to use, the water tastes great, reliable (I've never had one problem with it), and very economical compared to the alternatives. The unit is no larger than a large coffee maker so I don't understand the one review about its "huge" size. I've read all the negative reviews and truthfully I was struck by the fact that not one of them is an intelligent thoughtful review, either the unit is "too large" or they couldn't get it to work properly because they didn't read the instructions or some ridiculous "gel like particles" claim which I've never noticed in over 3 years. I like Amazon's review system but some reviews are more comical and entertaining than they are helpful. One other thing about this company which I'm impressed by - their customer service dept. I also have their sanitizing system and have had to call them twice for function code errors on the sanitizer and their customer service is outstanding. Great water system, great company.
