Tools and Hardware Reviews of The Rumford Gardener GH7500 Portable Greenhouse

Customer Review: A nice little greenhouse for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

Assembly was very easy, and my greenhouse held together just fine during moving it from inside the house to its current home next to the deck. I took others' advice and weighted the bottom shelf with a couple of gallon-sized milk jugs full of water (and heating the water before our 25-degree temp last night kept my plants toasty enough to survive the night just fine). I also stuck a couple of metal stakes through the bottom bars and staked it to the ground, so mine shouldn't tip over even in our often heavy gusts.

My only complaint about this greenhouse is the cover: While the plastic material seems durable, the zippers are of very poor quality. One was already missing its pull tab when I received the greenhouse; the other zipper's tab broke off the first time I used it. Also, there are ties sewn into a few interior seams to tie the cover to the frame as well as a tie sewn in near the top of the front flap for tying up the flap while accessing the interior. These ties are very flimsy and far too short to tie properly. Frankly, I doubt they will hold if enough of a wind gust whips under the cover. I may just sew my own longer, stronger ties into the cover one of these days.

Overall, though, this is a nice, adequate greenhouse for my season-extending needs.

Customer Review: Is What It Is for The Price
Summary: 4 Stars

This product is a great example of getting what you pay for; basically, for the price, this isn't a bad little greenhouse kit. Like others who left reviews, I had some trouble getting the bars to stay in place. I recommend using a pair of pliers to shape the ends of the bars during assembly. Adding a slight oval shape to the bars helped them to stay in place. Some of the bars need to be rounded better so they go into place without breaking the plastic connectors. The clear cover on mine arrived with a five inch split in it. This was easily repaired with duct tape. The cover does not extend all the way to the base of the greenhouse; it leaves about an eight inch gap (which might be considered "ventilation." The shelves are not sturdy enough to hold much weight, but they can be reinforced by connecting bailing wire from the top of the assembly. For the price, the need to apply a little inventive engineering to the kit's short-comings still makes this a decent deal (especially for the home gardeners on a tight budget).

Customer Review: Good for plants, but not too sturdy
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had a great time starting a bunch of seeds in the house during the cold months. As soon as it was time to set outside to harden the plants I did and then a LIGHT wind came by and toppled it over. That killed over half of my plants! Either by snapping them in half or crushing them. I picked up the pieces and tried it again but had my wrought iron lawn chairs holding it in place in the corner of my deck. I thought that would surely hold it. Well, a gust of wind came by and virtually picked it up and tossed it again to the ground. I lost ALL my plants this time. All that time and effort lost in a few short moments. This product is a good idea and the seeds come up really quickly indoors, but the plastic cover on it is what made it fall over and the wind to pick it up. I think the manufacturers should have put some holes in the plastic for wind to go through ~ like a banner has. Next year I'll either tie it down with either bungee cord or a heavy rope, cut holes in it myself or just forget the whole thing.

Customer Review: Good bang for buck -especially with free shipping.
Summary: 4 Stars

I paid a little over $40 for this and it shipped free. It's worth that and is a nice little greenhouse, especially for seedling starts in cold months inside. It keeps them away from the pets. If you use it outside, tie it down well. The worst thing about this was the dirt/dust/rust? that gets on your hands during assembly. Either wear gloves or wipe down every part. It took me over an hour to assemble, but I took my time and used a dab of Gorilla Glue on every joint. When finished, it was solid and portable. Without the glue, probably not portable. Best way to assemble is to put together all 4 levels 1st, then start at bottom and stack your way to the top. The vinyl cover is flimsy, but works and gets to about 2 inches from the floor. Set it in the sun before unpacking it so it's nice and warm. Good product overall, just take your time building it and do it right the 1st time.

Customer Review: Flimsy Product
Summary: 1 Stars

It looked so cute and I really wanted to like it, but.....

Putting it together was quite frustrating as the bars did not stay put. I put up one bar, and when trying to put up the next, the former one fell off.

After I had finally managed somehow to put this greenhouse together, I very cautiously put two trays of wheatgrass on it. The whole rack did not feel sturdy at all, and I knew then for sure that I had made a mistake purchasing it.

The next day, my cat jumped on one of the shelves and the whole house fell apart.

I also tried to move it (without any trays or pots) and some parts came apart yet again. You certainly can not move it with anything on it. Who wants to deal with that? And I would not even dare to put it outside.

I am a little disappointed, but really, what did I expect for the money??
