Customer Review: Easy, convenient way to roast garlic

Since I've been growing garlic starting last year, I wanted a easy way to use the garlic. I had heard about roasting it, and I tried to bake some garlic in my oven, but the results were not ideal. When I saw this electric garlic roaster, I decided I just had to get it.
The instructions were mostly easy to follow, I just had one slight problem. There's a ceramic insert that is supposed to be wet down and placed inside the bottom of the roaster. The first time I made a batch, I mistakenly put this insert upside-down and it cracked small slivers off the edge of the insert. Still, the garlic turned out great. The second batch I turned the slightly cracked insert the correct way, in a way that left a ring of water inside the insert and the garlic roasted even better.
Still, I contacted the manufacturer by e-mail and for a small fee, I bought a replacement insert. I probably could have made many batches of garlic with the damaged insert, but I still have the new one for a spare. I bet I'll get many good years of use out of this unit.

I was so surprised when I received this garlic cooker. I guess I expected it to be small, but it is large enough to hold 4 big heads of garlic! (It measures 7inches x 7 inches) It comes with a clay insert that you wet before putting in the special garlic tray. It's quite easy to clean and I like it that I don't need to heat up my oven to make yummy roasted garlic.
I would have liked a count down timer so I knew how much time was left, instead the light goes out and that's the only indication you have that it's ready. Even a little beep sound would be nice. In addition, I don't think that 30 minutes is enough time and my garlic was not as soft as I like it. I cook for another 10 minutes (popping the garlic tray out and adding more water to the clay insert with a turkey baster). For these two reasons I have marked down to a 4 star even though I adore this kitchen appliance and use it quite often.

We are big garlic lovers in our house and this product has provided a relatively quick way to make roasted garlic that can be spread on toast points, or used in recipes. To be honest, I don't think it quite roasts the garlic long enough to really develop the deep flavor and sweetness that you get from roasting in the oven. If, however, you don't want to heat up your oven just to roast a couple of heads of garlic, this product does a decent job.
Clean up is easy, we just throw the roasting tray in to the dishwasher, but it's just as easy to hand wash as well.
The product is very easy to use also. Just put a tablespoon or two of olive oil in the tray and on the heads of garlic, along with a little bit of salt and pepper, then push the button. For some variation of flavors, you can throw some herbs in there as well, such as rosemary or thyme.

I looked for a garlic roaster for months but could never find one, even in the gourmet cooking stores. Why? We ate at a fancy restaurant and they served roasted garlic along with butter for their bread. I was hooked! Stumbled upon this and based on the other reviews, bought two- the second one for my lake cabin. Fired it up and oh man, was it delicious! Spread on bread with salt/pepper, so yummy and healthy. Much better than spreading with butter/margarine. Cooked garlic does not give you garlic breath! It took less than 30 minutes and I did not have to turn on the oven. After it turns off, leave it in the cooker for about ten minutes if you want it to spread. I am extremely pleased with the Garlic Express. Dr. JCustomer Review: I love the Garlic Roaster

I love the Garlic Roaster. I use it often because it is so easy to use and the garlic can be used so many different ways. I can spread it on bread and crackers or put it in mashed pototoes or soups. It is a great product. I bought one for my son, my daughter, My friend as a hostess gift and my sister, They all love it too.
