Tools and Hardware Reviews of Trifield 100XE EMF Meter

Customer Review: Interesting gadget
Summary: 4 Stars

This meter is intended to detect electric and magnetic fields and microwaves. Solid red on the dial indicates where effects on the human body are supposed to begin.

I have discovered a lot of these. I now stay 6 feet away from any operating microwave oven, if I can. I have discovered that my Lexus RX300 produces a lot of electro-magnetic field, which is especially bad just above the dash. I don't know what a hybrid would be like if a regular gas engine car is this bad.

I got it partly to check on emission from nearby hilltop radio towers. I did not detect much from the towers' direction when nearby them, but did get the red zone from another direction. Maybe something was being directed toward them from another source.

The sensitive magnetic setting can pick up a battery powered watch ticking, when held right on it. Switching to the more sensitive magnetic range causes the needle to hit the right pin for a moment, however.

Looks like it was made in a garage shop, but overall I recommend it.
This meter seems to be a good compromise between price and features.

Customer Review: Great tool for home and work
Summary: 5 Stars

I had investigated buying one of these a year ago, but hesitated mainly due to cost. After finally buying it, I'm very pleased with it. The construction is no-frills, solid. It will probably last a century. In terms of function, other reviewers have pointed out some technical limitations, in comparison with high-end units. Those are probably valid, but don't seem to affect my type of usage (home, office).

It's been illuminating to see how some common devices at home are putting out EM radiation. As examples, nearly all tranformers (for cordless phones, cell charger, computers) have very high levels. The bedside clock radio next to my head has the highest levels I've registered on the unit. Interestingly, an old 1930's lamp next to my bed put out modestly high levels that dropped by flipping the prongs over in the outlet (was a non-polarized old plug). My 1960's oven and 1990's microwave are other sources that surprised me with their output.

In summary, nice quality, utilitarian unit that is ideal for home and office use for those that want to be educated about EM sources nearby.

Customer Review: Disappointed with this device - returning to Amazon.
Summary: 2 Stars

Received my Trifield 100XE EMF meter from Amazon. I was eager to try it out on some devices like some extraneous CFL bulbs and WiFi. What I found was that the sensor, which is the little metal panel where the needle spindle lies, needs to be pointed right at the test source. So as I'm holding the device to get the best measurement reading directly at the source, I am unable to read the needle reading - either from the glare of the plastic cover, or because I can't fit my head between the source and the device to see the needle, without affecting the reading. Additionally, the scale gradient becomes so fine, the higher the reading, that it is very difficult to get an accurate reading of between say, 250 to 500 volt/meters. If this device had a needle lock/release mechanism and if the sensor had a wired sensor, or simply had the sensor on the rear of the device- then I could live with it, but no can do. I will be looking for a more accurate electronic EMF meter with a top-mounted sensor, that can also lock the readings.

Customer Review: Good and usefull product

I did not hold for a while in my hands an electronic device with label "Made in U.S.A"! Wow! The device is made with good quality, convenient in use. I was able to find "bad" spots in my house with higher electro magnetic fields. Mostly generated by some electronics. I recommend this when choosing a place to leave or when relocating furniture in a house - just to make sure that you aere sleeping not in high EMF areas.
Cons: the price is pretty high, but I think it worth it since it can save your health. Also the documentation is pretty weak, I'd suggest to add a booklet with examples of measures: what you can usualy measure and what numers are good and what are bad.

Customer Review: excelente producto
