Tools and Hardware Reviews of Triton WRC001 41-Inch Tall by 4-6-Feet Wide by 12-13/16-Inch Deep Wall Mounted WoodrackCustomer Review: Buy two Summary: 5 Stars
First, I'm going to rant a little: I don't base any rating on my shipping experiences. And I think ANYONE who does, is being silly. Why would you care how *my* package arrived (good or bad)? I mean, it's absurd: shipping is shipping; and in my experience most damage is the result of the carriers handling of the package. (Have you ever just sat and watched baggage being loaded onto a UPS or FedEx truck or plane? - It's a wonder ANYTHING arrives undamaged, and a testament to how well-engineered cardboard boxes are.)
Ask yourself: How does the quality or use or features (or lack thereof) of some product have anything at all to do with the carriers shipping practices?
What I want to know in a review is about the unit itself (whatever "unit" it may be), what you thought about, and why you rated it like you did. How hard or easy it was to put together or adjust. What you liked and disliked about it. And that's all I want to see in your rating.
But it's not helpful to tell me what I already know about shipping: anyone can have good experiences, or they can have bad experiences. I've had - literally - thousands of packages shipped to me over the last 40 years (I owned a store for awhile), and the vast majority have arrived just fine. Occasionally ...not so fine. I've had stuff arrive busted all to pieces a few times; I've had to deal with trying to get the carrier to come through with insurance. I've seen plenty of examples of Curly, Larry, and Moe teaming up with Mickey Mouse to package something. So! What!
We all know shipping is *sometimes* problematic.
But that's not the point of my rant ...the point is: why would YOU care that the Three Stooges packaged my box, and Goofy dropped it from the loading deck? How would someone else's anecdotal shipping tale of woe be relevant to you? So QUIT with the shipping horror stories influencing your rating.
Because shipping has exactly zero to do with the product rating.
(Shipping is not packaging btw: but I've received boxes with FedEx notices that they - i.e., FedEx - had repackaged the box in transit. So it's not always obvious that the packaging that you've received is the package that the sender put the product into. It IS helpful to know how a factory is packaging it's stuff.)
I understand that not everyone is going to be happy with Amazon's packaging all the time (although again, Amazon isn't the carrier). But unfortunately, there's no SEPARATE place where you can rate AMAZON.
AND I'M NOT SAYING YOU SHOULDN'T SPOUT OFF ABOUT PACKAGING OR SHIPPING. It helps to let off steam; and - particularly for packaging - maybe some rep' will read these reviews and get a clue that there may be a problem.
I'm simply saying: don't use the shipping when you're rating the product. Jet quality control wasn't responsible for some FedEx gorilla dropping your spiffy new disk sander from the top of some loading dock. (Yes, I've watched that happen. Recently.)
Keep this in mind: we look at the ratings to find out what the general consensus is about the product. It's not helpful to us when you diss some product because of your bad shipping experience. Quit mixing apples with oranges people.
Now ...and with that out of the way.
Let *me* counter some of the complaints about the packaging of the Triton racks with a more recent experience.
My package arrived today (Jan 3 2008) in PERFECT shape. I ordered two sets (direct from Woodcraft: they were having a sale that's about half the usual Amazon discount price, and with free shipping), and there wasn't a single piece out of place or scratched in either factory box, which were shipped in a larger single cardboard carton, well padded with heavy paper.
So. In January 2008, a Triton package arrived in immaculate condition. Huzzahs.
But that "shipping story" is irrelevant to my rating.
It's a good product. Well designed. Well built. Easy to to install. Nice instructions, and the package has a great illustration of a simple and sturdy shelf you can use to load shorter pieces of lumber on, and several examples of different ways of mounting this.
Five stars. (Because form met function, and the result was pleasing.)
'Nuff said.
