Customer Review: Mostly works great, time saver for sure

I just got the self propelled version of this machine last week and used it for the second time this week on my leaves. This guy works well on solid surfaces, leaves, pine needles etc. however, Ponderosa (long) pine needles are not sucked up so well (or at all) on grass. You may have to rake them up and then roll the machine over the pile. I'll try that later. As for deciduous tree leaves, they were picked up in no time and the hose picked up the leaves blown up against the house. All of the finely chopped residue went into the compost heap, the bag was very well designed and dumped it's load quickly and cleanly. A good dust mask is a must.
I will not use this on rocky areas without setting up the height since at low height it pushed the rocks ahead of it and sucked up a couple of smaller stones(not good). This is a big time saver for me as I have 22 trees on the property. We had some of the leaves disposed of last year and it cost about $100 so this will pay for itself in a few years.

My experience has been different from that of the previous reviewer. We recently moved to the Northwest, and as I've watched the leaves fall in droves, I told myself I wasn't going to rake them by hand. You can adjust the height of the front mounted vacuum inlet, and I found that low worked great for pavement, medium for grass, and high was usually just too high. But when it's adjusted properly the unit picks up almost all of the leaves it goes over. To use the hose properly you must shut off the front vacuum inlet, and the hose isn't perhaps as strong as you'd like but it's not bad. The chipper inlet is small but functional for small branches and I've used it quite a bit. For the price I'm happy and my yard and sidewalk are much cleaner than the neighbors'!Customer Review: Troy Bilt lives up to expectations

As I read previous reviews before purchasing the item, I knew what problems I might face, such as assembling the bag, and the amount of leaves it would handle. I live on a heavily wooded lot, and found that it worked great. It starts right up easily, and though the suction drops as the bag fills, it worked terrific on dry leaves. I recently purchased the blower chute add on, for areas where I don't need to bag the leaves, just mulch, and look forward to trying it. It also worked great on my gravel driveway, at a higher wheel setting, and did not suck up any stones, just leaves. Along with my leaf blower this is a great labor saver for me. J.O. I purchased mine last year and found it to work well on all surfaces. No it won't suck up every watered down, trampled on, been there for two months leaf. But it does a great job getting the loose ones and even most bedded down ones. My wife loves the hose attachment for me getting the leaves out of her flower beds. I used to use the old rake and pull method which would also remove half of her flowers. All in all a great machine for residential use.Customer Review: Buy something else!

I've never written a review on Amazon before. I bought this product from a local store last spring. Really a bad purchase. Couldn't suck up anything! I was cleaning out my garage this summer and acutally put it out for the garbage man to pick up. I wouldn't even give it away to someone because I felt like I was just passing along a problem to someone else. Told the wife sorry about wasting the money...but live and learn.
