Customer Review: Great Blower/VAC, not so great bag

The blower/vac unit itself is the best i have ever used. it has plenty of power, it will suck up and shred anything from large pinecones to clumps of frozen leaves.
the problem is the bag. it lasts for 10 uses or so, but then the cheap plastic zipper fails and the bag is useless. troy-bilt customer service sent me 3 free bags after i complained. the bags they sent me have a nice long zipper (like in the picture on this web page). they lasted about a year total. when i went to buy a new bag i got the original bag that has the short zipper. it lasted a day. now troy-bilt says thats the only bag. and each bag costs $38 with the shipping.
if you are going to use the vac feature, this is not the unit you want. i'm shopping for something else
update: I have noticed that this blower (which is sold in lowes) comes with a DIFFERENT bag than the one you get when you go to buy a replacement. Dont be fooled, the replacement bag will last you a daya before the zipper splits and renders the bag useless.

THE FIRST TROY BUILT BLOWER/VACUUM I BOUGHT HAD AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN THE SWITCH THAT WOULD GIVE ME A MILD SHOCK WHEN TURNING THE UNIT ON. AFTER THE FOURTH OR FIFTH USE, THE UNIT BEGAN SMOKING. I HAD PURCHASED THE UNIT IN DECEMBER, AND IT WAS NOW MAY. I CONTACTED AMAZON AND WITHOUT ANY HASSEL THEY AGREED TO REPLACE IT. WHEN MY SECOND ONE ARRIVED, I OPEN THE BOX TO TEST THE MOTOR/SWITCH TO SEE IF I'D GET SHOCKED. THE SHOCK CAME WHEN AFTER 20 SECONDS, THE IMPELLER CAME LOOSE OR WAS BROKEN. I PUT THE MOTOR BACK IN THE BACK AND IMMEDIATELY RETURNED IT. AMAZON IS REFUNDING MY ORIGINAL PURCHASE. I killed & reseeded my lawn this year. I bugged my husband forever to get a leaf blower to keep the lawn clear of leaves so all our hardwork & $$$ would not go to waste. An answer to my prayers (aka nagging), my husband surprises me with the Troy-Bilt leaf blower/vac. Yeah! After two leaf piles the bag is full. Okay, turn off engine, unclip shoulder strap, unclip bag from underneath, rotate bag off outtake, unzip side of bag(?), shake the heck out of bag, stick hand into bag to remove leaves, shake bag again, put bag back on...etc...repeat after every two piles...take shower at end because I am so dusty! The Troy-Bilt is poorly designed, more time consuming, & harder on our enviroment then raking. BTW blower works great.
I do not recommend.

After reading the positive and negative reviews on this item, I reluctantly bought this model since it had the features I needed (blow & vac). First of all, the bag zipper split after a few uses. The new bag costs half of what the entire model cost!!! Then the motor smoked. The unit was still on warranty and I took it in for warranty work. The repairman stated that he has had the same problem with like-models and the manufacturer won't cover the repair. It cost me big bucks for something that should have been covered under warranty. The repairman stated I might have persurvered, but it would have taken time and cost more money. He didn't want to hassle with the manufacturer. My recommewndation: Buy another brand and save you grief.Customer Review: It Blew My Mind

I was very relieved to receive and find that my new Troy-Bilt TB125QS Electric Blower was everything it was advertised to be. I have had other brands before and hated them all when doing the vacuum mode. With the Troy-Bilt there is no removing stuff, just flick the lever and it goes from blow to vacuum. the bag is also much easier to pop off and empty than my past ones which had velcro ties to undo and redo and the bags would fall off while I was vacuuming. It is not rated as high as Toro and some others for wind speed, but maybe Troy-Bilt just cheat the ratings. It is very very strong blowing and very good picking up. It also has a cute little floor attachment. A couple stars higher than any other out there.
