Tools and Hardware Reviews of U.S. Patrol JB5593 Siren Padlock AlarmCustomer Review: Holy Cow It Works! Summary: 5 Stars
Wow, I LOVE these locks. I bought two of these along with a couple of non alarmed disc locks to help protect a couple of scooters, and i couldn't be happier with this product! Saved a bundle from having to buy two alarmed disc locks, and gave me options of where, when, and how to use them.
I can't really speak to the quality of the actual lock as a lock so far as picking or cutting is concerned. I am no locksmith after all. They seem rugged, strong, and durable. But the best part is yes, they have loud alarms in them! And they work like a charm. I attach these to my scooters however i like, out of sight or within sight. If you bump my scooter you will here three loud beeps. If you grab the lock and wiggle it slightly, three loud beeps. Shake my scooters, you get the same. Tap the lock gently, ditto. Do it again, and these locks start to wail like wild banshees. Not like a car alarm, but like a motorcycle or scooter alarm. 110db's to be sure, and high pitched and plenty loud. After 10 seconds it stops. Mess around again and bam, they wail away. I had one locked around my front forks and this morning accidentally rubbed the scooter cover against it while taking it off. It let me know for certain it was armed with three loud beeps. And it's nice to know if anyone else were removing the cover they would know, too. Mess around some more, and bam!. The alarm goes off for 10 seconds! And it will continue to go off whenever disturbed again.
I like the way the lock is designed. The entire clasp comes out, and can be turned around so it doesn't act like an alarm, but just a regular lock. The batteries are placed inside the lock at the bottom. The way you put them in is to take out the locking clasp, take out two screws, and the body of the lock comes apart in two. Pop the batteries in, and then reassemble with the batteries safe and secure inside the lock, and beneath the locking clasp and two screws. This way thieves have no way of simply removing the batteries to defeat the alarm. Great!
The only con about this lock is the alarm can be muffled somewhat with tightly closed hands around it, or something wrapped around it to muffle it. But if placed smartly on whatever item you are protecting, or placed on scooters or motorcycles in a way where this can't be done, its a most perfect noise deterrent for theft. I put mine high on the forks out of sight, or on the frame out of sight. Also in tight spots so picking or cutting is out of the question. So, mess with my scooters, and you will get a BIG surprise!
Very, very happy with this purchase for my purposes.
