The first timer I received stopped functioning after two days. It would not turn on any appliance in either the progammable or the manual modes. Returing it to the vendor was quick and without cost. The second timer I received is working correctly. The timer comes with batteries in place however, the battery container cover must be removed and the batteries adjusted to the correct positive/negative alignment. One area that is not mentioned in the instructions is that, after reinstalling the batteries, nothing will function until the recessed reset button is pushed. This could lead one to conclude that either the batteries are dead, incorrecly installed or the timer is defective.
