I bought this before I went to Germany. The first day I tried using it with my hair dryer...it fried my hair dryer. It didn't seem to be "converting" the voltage so much as just allowing for the hair dryer to be plugged in. Did I miss something in the instructions? I could hear my hair dryer running about twice as strong as it normally does, then smelled something burning...then, no more hair dryer. Maybe this thing is only to be used with electronics that have the option of switching to a lower voltage? I'm just glad it was my hair dryer that got fried and not my camera battery. I guess for $3 you can't expect too much.Customer Review: Perfect for All of Germany

This is absolutley the best adapter you can get for your trip to Germany. If you are unfamiliar with the country and have reservations about commiting to a certain style of adapter, don't! This can be used all over the country. A word of caution: Highlight the face of the adapter with a red marker or something! it is very easy to unplug your device and leave the adaptor behind because its color is the same as the trim. To the American eye, it will look just like one of our sockets and you won't even think twice as you leave it behind in the wall. Color it, put a sticker on it, something. I purchased two of these to use while travelling overseas. They worked fine for a day or two, but then I tried to unplug my laptop and ended up removing the top cover of the adapter and exposing the live metal contacts inside. I thought it was a fluke, but the other adapter broke in the same fashion with nothing more than the normal amount of force it takes to unplug a small appliance. While the device could still be used, it is VERY unsafe for anyone with small children in the home as they could easily "break" the adapter and expose themselves to live current. It's perfect to use as a permanent connector. Plug it into the original plug of your device, connect it to the jack, and forget about it. Very cheap, so you can afford to buy a dozen of them for various devices.
The only downside I can think of, the fact that if you don't use it as a permanent connector (i.e. you need to unplug it every now and then), the connector likes to stick in the jack while you pull your device plug off it. So you have to pull the connector from the jack as well. Wish the connector's holes are a little tighter so they can grab the plugs stronger.

These are probably great in Europe, but I bought them to use in Chile, which uses a similar looking plug (in fact, I have other "european" plugs that work fine in Chile and parts of Argentina). However, the diameter of the pins was too big to fit in the outet I tried to use it in. I confess I didn't try it again for the rest of the trip because my cheapo converters without a hole for the ground plug (again, also sold as European) worked fine so I just stuck to them. I hate to ding a product when maybe the only problem was my ignorance, but thought I ought to issue a warning.
