Tools and Hardware Reviews of Multimeter DT830B 19-Range DMMCustomer Review: Good little multimeter for the price. Summary: 4 Stars
This is a nice little multi-meter for use around the house or shop. Haven't had any problems with it but I also haven't used it much either - mainly just to test batteries. The small size is great and the price was right. I like the fact that, unlike other meters I've used, it has a separate power on/off switch so you can leave the function dial where you use it the most. The only quibbles I have with it are that the 3 wire sockets aren't clearly marked as to which wire goes where and the wire plugs stick up kindof high so they don't fit into my carrying case if left plugged in. But these are minor issues. Overall you can't go wrong for the money.
Customer Review: Functional for minimal cost Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased six of these units to use in my classroom for an electric circuit unit. The units work for the minimal requirements for which I need them to, measuring current in a circuit. Of the six received, however, two were nonfunctional upon receipt. I replaced the 9 volt battery and they worked fine. I did notice that each device gave me a different reading on the charge of a battery. I also wish that the directions that came with it were clearer and provided more information. :)
Overall, fine by my standards but because I had to spend money on two new batteries, I took off one star.
Customer Review: Description Misleading - No Batter Tester With Load Setting Summary: 2 Stars
I am extremely disappointed and feel deceived. Now that I can examine it up close, this is the exact same device I bought at a Dollar Store in a different color. I bought this because I wanted to test batteries under load to get a reading of how much power the battery still had. Old/used batteries can read 1.5 volts when not under load, but will quickly drop once a load is placed on it, hence the need to test them under load to determine if they are still good.
Anyway - as a cheap multimeter, it's fine. As a Battery tester with load - that's deceptive and why I give this 2 stars.
Customer Review: No problems after 1 year Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this in January 2010 and it is still working fine on the original battery. I use it to measure volts and current on flashlights. It works well measuring DC amps up to 1.5A or so using the included probes and set to the 10A setting, but I upgraded the leads because I was getting low readings for current over 1.5A (pretty much any DMM will be that way). It would be nice to have another digit in the display, or backlighting, or a sound for continuity testing, but for less than $10, this a great deal. It is also more compact than some of the other cheap DMM's out there.
Customer Review: needs some better directions Summary: 3 Stars
This just may be a 5 star product, but without directions for the non-cognicenti (sp?), it becomes less useful. I just wanted a battery tester, but I got something that I am sure does all kinds of things that I will never do, .. I have to guess how to use it as a battery tester. I think I have it figured out, but I can't just leave the dial on the setting that works - you're supposed to turn it off in between, so the dial goes back to neutral and I have to try to remember what dial position worked last time.
