Customer Review: Worked for 2 Weeks .....???
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm giving this humidifier ONE start right now because I'm frustrated. I purchased this thing for over a hundred dollars at Bed Bath & Beyond because I have an expensive guitar and need perfect humidity to keep it playing and sounding right. I was initially pleased as it started out working fairly well. I keep it in a small room with my guitar on a stand and it did well keeping humidity right at around 45 degrees. The room was small enough that it only needed to kick on occasionally. I think I went through about one tank of water for a week and a half of use. After doing one refill and hooking it up, it worked for about two more days and then quit blowing any steam whatsoever. The read out comes on all right, I can hear the fan going, but nothing comes out on warm or cool settings at any setting of humidity. NOTHING. I cleaned it, inspected it, read the manual for any troubleshooting tips, and it still is not working. I don't think it could be the filter because that is supposed to last for at least "2 to 3 months" according to the manual -- and they're $15 eacht to replace anyway... Customer service reps aren't there on the weekends. I notice in the manual they tell you not to return it to where you purchased it for a refund. I don't know what the reps will tell me on Monday, but right now, this humidifier ain't floatin my boat. I want my money back.

Customer Review: fixing a potential problem with this humidifier
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased two identical Venta VS207 humidifiers to use in separate bedrooms. After reading the manual, I set up the first one with no problem. But the second one--as another reviewer said-- would only blink at me and not start misting. After some trial and error, I discovered the problem and was able to fix it: The screw cap for the water tank, onto which one first screws in the demineralization cartridge, has a small rubber gasket. In my non-working unit, that gasket was too far down against the outer screw cap, which meant the spring loaded button would not work properly to let the water descend into the base tank . The solution: push up on that small rubber gasket so that it is as far up and away from the screw cap as it can be without falling off, and voila! you get mist!!
Another problem: I suspect the relative humidity readings may not be accurate: both of my units show an RH of 35% when other hygrometers in the same room show about 50%. My solution is simply to set the RH desired level on 35%, which really means the unit will cut off when I think the real RH is around 50%.
Also, due to the design, it's a bit awkward to replace a full water tank onto the base. It requires controlled strength.
On the positive side, the units are very quiet and produce lots of mist.

Customer Review: Finally, a digital humidifier that works!
Summary: 5 Stars

After 5 unsuccessful attempts to try the Germ Guardian brand receiving 5 units from the manufacturer over the past year, we decided to give up on them altogether and try the Venta unit desiring a digital model with minimal maintenence. Success! Although it has been 2 weeks, it worked quietly and efficiently from the very start. It puts out a very strong mist without saturating my carpet and the humidistat appears to be able to monitor the humidity level in our bedroom and shut off and on accordingly to maintain the programmed percentage. I couldn't be more thrilled after so many problems with the other, more expensive brand. The fan is very quiet, and the only noise we hear is a slight gurgling (I try to visualize a babbling brook and it doesn't bother my sleep). I did have to keep it on all day at first to allow it to rise the humidity level of the room to a comfortable level (50%) in order to reap the benefits at night. And my husband refills it in our master bath with a standard tub; it fits under our spigot just fine (ulike another reviewer) and we'd expect the tank to be heavy as it holds enough water to maintain a comfortable humidity in our dry winter bedroom all night! Overall, I am quite happy and even more so that the price was right!

Customer Review: One of the best out there...but with two problems
Summary: 3 Stars

Over the past few years I've tried every high-end humidifier on the market, and in short...this one is the best of the worst. The fact is there simply are no humidifiers in production that don't have some of the typical humidifier problems...this one just has fewer of them.

White dust...the death knoll for sensitive electronic equipment, and while Venta says there should be "little" white dust, I have to disagree. I have three of these units and when they're running every piece of black plastic in my house is covered with white dust. Plasma and LCD TVs often have a small fan inside them for suck in outside air to cool components and then blow it back out a different opening. I know from expensive experience that white dust can ruin these items.

Forget the humidity percentage gauge on these units...they aren't even close to accurate. I recommend a good hydrometer if you need to know your accurate humidity levels.

On the good side, these are the easiest to maintain and clean of any humidifiers I've tried. They MUST be cleaned weekly when in use, but it's only a 5-minute job.

Customer Review: Not as quiet as I expected.
Summary: 3 Stars

My main problem with the unit stems from the fact that I'm a light sleeper with excellent hearing and live in a quiet neighborhood. As a result I can hear the trickling sound produced by the transducer bouncing water droplets around in the chamber that produces the mist. If the trickling sound was constant I could have gotten used to it but it is irregular (little pops, crackles and spurts like the sound of a mouse snooping around in your bedroom after the lights go out). If you dont have good high frequency hearing this sound probably wont bother you.
The other sound I found annoying is the gurgle produced when an air bubble squeezes it way into the tank from the exit hole. This noise is loudest when the tank is near full and weakest when near empty. I found myself deliberately filling the tank only half full to avoid this noise. After using this unit for about 3 days I decided to return it and see if I could find a quiter unit. I did try a cheap ultrasonic model from Walmart and it had exactly the same non-constant trickling sound. It may be unavoidable in ultrasonic based products.
