This is my 3rd portable humidifier - the other two are in the garage collecting dust. I am *very* pleased with the Venta. It raises the humidity very quickly and it is practically silent. Just fill it with tap water, and the included filter will ensure that your room won't be covered in white dust. I have had no problems at all with the unit.
It is true that the built-in hygrometer is not accurate. However, that needn't be a problem. Just determine how much humidity you want (perhaps by using a separate hygrometer), then set the Venta at whatever level maintains that humidity. Considering the overall excellence of the Venta, it is easy to forgive the hygrometer problem.

Bought this one year ago after reading all the reviews. Set up was a snap, the thing is so quiet, and I have figured out how to use the humidistat for the room it's in, which is a very large one. However, have not used the warm mist feature -- have enough mildew problems with the cool mist. By the way, someone needs to invent a way to get the mildew out of the little folds in the spout and other places -- I usually put the spout through the dishwasher periodically. Love having a filter I only change every three months! Very little problem with white precipitate on my furniture; nothing a static-free duster can't fix readily. This is a great little humidifier.

My wife and I both had sinus problems this winter until we got a couple of these units for our living area, and it's been like night and day. We feel better, no sinus problems, and have more energy. We keep them running 24x7.
The only problem is if we forget to fill the reservoir and the units run out of water overnight and the house gets dry, we wake up with sinus headaches. But that's hardly the humidifier's fault!
The units indeed register 30% when the humidity is below that. But we prefer the target humidity to be 35% or over, so that's not a problem for us.
I like them so much, I'm going to buy another one for my home office.

I bought an earlier model of this. It stopped working after about 2 months of use. I spent over a month on the phone with them. They could not tell me how to fix it, instead they kept telling me I had to purchase more things that did not fix it. In the end I added 50% to the already high cost of the humidifier to no avail. They would not accept return, or replace, or apologize or even reduce the cost of all the extra things they kept charging me for. You will be much happier buying a $30 humidifier that works fine for a couple months and then throw it out. If you do buy this, when it stops working, throw it out! You will save yourself a lot of aggravation.Customer Review: Leaky tank and problematic humidistat

I purchased this unit from bed bath and beyond about two month ago. It used to work perfectly and then I started to notice there was a pool of water underneath it and then humidistat stopped working properly. The water tank seemed to be intact when the unit was not running. The water leak started when the humidifier took "seep" of water as air bubbles were produced. In addition, since the humidistat sensor's holes were in the bottom of the unit, the humidistat stopped to work properly once the pool of water started to affect the humidity in that close proximity. I emailed venta informing the problem two weeks ago and has not yet heard anything from them.
