Tools and Hardware Reviews of Ventamatic CX1500 Power Gable Ventilator FanCustomer Review: Great Fan but fan blades hit mounting screws when mounts are attached!!! Summary: 3 Stars
The fan looks great and works great but I was forced to use the old housing from the attic fan which came with my house. The problem is that when we attached the mounts with the screws provided, the fan blades did not turn freely without striking the screws. The fan is working fine with my old fan housing which incidentally is much heavier duty and more sturdy. For the price, I am happy and very fortunate that I had an old fan housing available to me. If this was my initial attic fan, I would be returning this item. Also, of note, nowhere on the box did the word Ventamatic appear which leads me to believe that this was not the item I paid for but a substitute. Nonetheless, I am happy with the fact that I have a working attic fan for under $50. Hopefully this thing will work for a while.
Customer Review: Quick and easy install!! Summary: 5 Stars
I installed this fan today in my attic over the gable. The instructions recommend cutting a 15 1/8 hole in a piece of plywood and then mounting the fan to the plywood, and then to 2X4 studs around the gable. The Fan provides quite a bit of air movement with a slight hum in the garage. I will probably add some foam strips between the studs and the plywood mount in order to decrease vibrations. We live in Arizona, so the attic can get quite hot. The fan kicked on at 95F and turns off once the temperature dips below that degree. You can adjust the thermostat as needed with a flat head screwdriver,(has a nice indicator for precise adjustment). Great fan, easy install. I would definitely recommend.
Customer Review: Good overall Summary: 4 Stars
I wasn't particularly impressed with the quality of this when I opened it up (external frame was not as solid as I would have hoped), but actually thought it was surprisingly easy to install in the end and is not as noisy as I had feared based on other reviews. I would not recommend putting it above a bedroom, b/c I think it makes enough noise/vibrations that it could be an issue, but we have it in a gable above the kitchen and it's not an issue at all.
But, as other reviewers have mentioned, it does run almost all the time, and I don't really know how much difference it makes. But it's inexpensive and pretty low risk, so I don't have any regrets.
Customer Review: Good Return On Your Money Summary: 5 Stars
This is an absolute MUST purchase if you don't have adequate attic/garage ventilation. I have installed two of these recently in my son's home and it made an immediate improvement in their air conditioning performance. Like other reviewers these fans were installed onto a 2"x4" simple frame over the existing wood vent. The tolerances are fairly close on the fan housing and you need to be careful in the installation to make sure the blades don't hit the housing.
Recommendation: Add an ON/OFF switch somewhere in your downstairs area (mine is in a hall closet). This makes it easy to service if something goes wrong or adjustments need to be made.
Customer Review: Works, but runs constantly Summary: 3 Stars
I installed this fan in my attic several weeks ago and set the thermostat at 85 degrees. It ran constantly except for a few hours overnight. I raised the thermostat up to about 100 and it still runs most of the time if the outside temp is over 85. I put it about 2/3 of the way between the attic floor and the peak. If I had it to do over, I would move it a little closer to the peak to try to move the hottest air. That may cause it to work more efficiently. It was inexpensive, easy to install, blows hard and is relatively quiet. I do not intend to keep anyone from trying this fan, I just encourage anyone to who does to carefully consider where to place it.
