I must admit to thinking the pictures were retouched. However, when I plugged it in I was pleasantly surprised to find that the lamp is even prettier than shown. Since it is chunk of rock salt, irregularly shaped, some areas are thicker than others resulting in deeper oranges. The glow is quite lovely and reminds me of lava. When off, it is salmon pink with shades of white to dark-pink.
My lamp is about 11" tall and about 18" around. It is not crumbly or flaky. The wooden base is sturdy and doesn't look cheap. I plan to purchase more salt lamps for my bedroom and study because they are so pretty. At this price, and with free shipping, it is quite a bargain.
Added note: When we had a period of rain for several days and my lamp was turned off, I found that it attracted water. Yikes! A puddle of salty water around my pretty lamp. Turning it on and keeping it on solved the problem. So, if you live in a humid area or do not have AC to dry out the air, you might want to keep the lamp on 24/7 to make sure it stays dry. (Even when wet, it did not crumble apart)

It started with my ordering a small, ball-shaped salt candle holder -- I loved it so (and still do!) that it prompted me to buy this lamp -- and now I love this lamp too! What's to love? First, the lamp I received is about 10" tall from the wooden base to its top, and it is an impressive monolithic slab o'salt! Unlit it's interesting to look at, but not something that really catches the eye -- until you turn it on! Fantastic glow! The warm golden shades of peach and apricot are lovely to look at, and once it's lit you can see all the wonderful variations in the block of salt itself. I have no idea if it truly cleans the air or does anything useful at all -- it's just beautiful to glance up at every so often. And now I've definitely made it my own, having perched a wee persimmon-colored mushroom bird atop it! I definitely recommend buying this lamp, or one of the numerous others Amazon offers -- the price is great (at least on this one) and free shipping! Believe me, this lamp is heavy, so not having to pay for shipping was definitely a deciding factor in purchasing it!Customer Review: Lovely!

I bought two of these. One for my aunt and one for my mom. Both ladies are very difficult to buy for and I usually get the "Oh honey that was nice of you but.." This time they LOVED the lamps! My mom has COPD and said she was breathing easier after the first night! I can't claim any medical miracles but if it makes her feel better I am happy! Because of my mom's condition she can't have any candles around and she misses the warmth the candles give off. She was happy with the way the salt lamps had a "candle like glow" My aunt was equally thrilled with the lamp.
The lamps arrived in perfect condition. They also had a bulb! This is great because its a pain to buy a gift for someone and they cant use it right away.
The only complaint they had was they wished there was a dimmer switch so they could turn them down at night. That was easily solved when a friend installed one.
I also have one and plan on purchasing a few more for my office and for gifts.
I have checked around and this is a GREAT price!

i bought this as a Christmas present for hubby, so have not really used yet. Checked to see that it worked. packaging very generic and "dollar shop-y", so not as nice as expected based on amazon ad...time will tell.....
It is now after Christmas and I am editing my review. Lamp is pretty, but as for claims about ions and neutralizing allergens, etc, again, time will tell. Who knows after only a few days? I did add a star to the product...for the price I paid ($10.99 plus shipping $14.91, so my total was $25.90), the product is acceptable. I would NEVER pay full price for this. There is a wood base, but basically, the lamp consists of the pretty salt formation on a wood frame, while the bare lightbulb screws onto the end of a cord and just gets placed in under the salt formation. Seems a bit unstable and not as much a "foundation" as I expected. Again, for the price of the actual product, acceptable. I might even purchase another if it improves my husband's quality of life, but I was not blown away by the total package.

Mine arrived yesterday; timely, in good shape, as expected.
The photo is a bit deceptive, or at least incomplete.
See, the photo makes it look like plastic, but it's not. It's salt. It's heavy, rough, and irregular. It's a big chunk of salt.
Instructions say to clean it with a damp cloth but I'm not sure that's practical. It's pretty rough. More importantly, it casts light
the color of the photo. The light is very warm, very orange. It's NICE, but don't buy it if you don't want a warm light.
Also, the power cord is black. I'm dressing the cord along a white shelf against a white wall and would have wanted to know that.
Health benefits given the whole 'ion' thing? Not sure. I mostly wanted to warn you it has a black power cord. I like it plenty, and will buy one as a gift.
It's really pretty awesome, looks great. I might even buy another for myself. No complaint at all (except for the doggoned black power cord!)
