Tools and Hardware Reviews of Warner Manufacturing 382XXX Tool 1000-Watt Radiant Heat Paint RemoverCustomer Review: warner 382 electric paint remover Summary: 5 Stars
Like any tool that produces heat, it should be handled with care and be given your full attention when using. I didn't even know this existed until my next door neighbor brought his over. I am stripping my 130 year old house down to bare wood. I was impressed with the light weight of the paint remover. I was also impressed with how it was able to soften and loosen 12 layers of paint so that i could easily scrap down to bare wood.
Take some time and get use to working with the tool. This is my second year of stripping teh paint off the house and i would recommend it to anyone. I do use a heat gun for the small or detailed ornamentation on my house as i can focus is on a particular spot. But for any big areas this item has worked very well for me...
Customer Review: Works great...for cheap Summary: 4 Stars
I was considering a purchase of the "silent" paint stripper, or whatever it's called. I thought the price for this was cheap enough for a trial before taking the plunge on something for $300+. I'm glad I did.
I'm restoring old double pane windows and the glazing putty is like granite. Because I am staining and painting the windows also, this works great and is fast. The old stain and paint bubbles up in seconds; hit it with a scraper and move on. The putty softens to a point where it's removable. You get the hang of holding it so that you aren't over heating the glass after a few broken panes. The only drawback is there is no on or off switch...if it's plugged in, it's on.
Customer Review: Just what you expect Summary: 4 Stars
Just what I expected. I owned a version of this tool for 20 years and it gave reliable service. The wiring finally got damaged, so I was happy that I could find a new one in its place. Yes, you have to be careful, but a little common sense goes a long way. If the paint catches fire, blow it out. I get in a nice rhythm: count to 10 slowly and then scrape. Repeat. Its messy, but not so bad as that horrible chemical stuff that needs to be repeated several times. Oh, and don't forget to open a window if you are inside. The smell is pretty strong.
Customer Review: Wonderful product Summary: 5 Stars
I have not actually used it yet but have been reading up on what all it will do and how to use it. I am very excited about the possibilities. I can hardly wait to see how it works on stains. I have no doubt that it will remove paint in a flash and easier than working with harsh chemicals. I was totally sold on it and bought it without any special project coming up to use it on. But I know I will put it to good use in the near future.
Customer Review: Works OK, but Flimsy Construction Summary: 2 Stars
The devise works as advertised, but is pretty delicate. Was coming apart after a day's use. I ended-up using typical heat gun from hardware store to finish my project. With any of these heat stripping tools, patience and a slow pace are key to success. Preheat the paint, and then directly heat the paint just in front of your slowly moving scrapper. It's a two-handed process using both heating devise & scrapper in concert.
