I never did get to install this unit. I received the shipment and in checking the parts discovered that the sink flange and its supporting ring could not be separated. They should have been screwed together "hand tight" for shipment but were frozen together. I put some WD-40 on the threads and used a pair of channel lock pliers with no success. They wouldn't budge. I can only guess that some jokester at the factory put some super glue on the threads to have a little fun. I put in a call to Waste King support and got a recording stating they would return my call. They never responded which compounded my frustration. Amazon offered to replace the unit but I've been without a disposal now for two weeks, so I returned it for refund and bought a replacement at Lowes which is what I should have done in the first place.
Overall, it doesn't justify two stars but I'm just a nice guy.

Install was very easy, and would have been easier if I had opted to install a GFI under the sink and just plug it in. Instead, trying to save money, I hard wired it in. Getting the rubber plug out that held the wire into the bottom of the disposal was a pain, but after that it was easy enough to connect the wires and put on a strain relief (note that you will need to purchase a strain relief separately, which is under a dollar at the hardware store). The easy mount system earned it's name. I got the 1001 1/2 hp, which replaced a 1/3 hp Badger. I had to cut off 1/2" of the drain pipe included to make the fit and remove all the old badger mounting, all of which was easy. Besides fussing with removing the wire from the bottom of the unit, the install took me 20 minutes. Not bad for never having done a disposal install before. It's powerful enough for everything we throw down it.Customer Review: Helpful Hint

I am happy with the product. I was extremely happy with the customer service I got from Anaheim Manufacturing,the maker of Waste King ( [...] )when I had a small installation problem.
When installing the "cushion mount" it is extremely important that it be installed in the lowest possible position "the plastic of the "sink flange" should not be visible. Disposer is impossible to attach if wrong, a breeze if it is positioned properly. This is not clear in the instructions.
If used as a replacement disposer, be aware that the plumbing outlet may be at a different height than the original. I was lucky to have the parts available to make the change.
The outlet center on the 1001 model is approx. 6 1/2 inches below the sink bottom.
This disposer has no allen wrench fitting on the bottom to help fix jams, a wooden spoon is recommended.

This disposal works as advertised. I replaced a 1/3 HP disposal that was about 8 years old. This 1/2 HP is smaller and quieter. It has disposed of all that I have put in it so far. My only complaint is that the sink opening is slightly smaller than my previous unit.
Installation was pretty easy. My old disposal was a 3 bolt so I did have to completely remove it before installation. The unit comes assembled which is helpful for the install. Pay attention to how the cushion mount and tightening ears go together. It is a little cumbersome trying to get it to sit right while you are trying to hold and mount the unit but once you see how it sits it is pretty easy.
Price, size, warranty and customer reviews led to this purchase. At this point, I am extremely happy with this decision.

Installation took less time than taking an old piece of ... out. When ordering make sure you have the right electrical set-up picked. I odered a unit WITH cord provided, but ended up taking it out myself and hooking up straight to the unit using an existing connection to the old Insinkerator. It fit perfectly!!! Believe me, I am not handy, but was able to do the "easy installation" myself. To make it a little easier, put some petroleum jelly on those little pegs, which go to the final unit connection to the sink.
Other detail. Manifacturer-provided size chart found in the box for Legend series was far more detailed than anything I found on sale sites. I would have chosen 2600 or 3200 series if I new the exact size. Please call manifacturer or sales rep to clarify the unit size.
