Tools and Hardware Reviews of Waste King L-2600 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer

Customer Review: Quiet, lightweight, and an idiot-proof installation!
Summary: 5 Stars

Like darned near every other reviewer here, I purchased this to replace a heavy, noisy, and leaking InSinkErator Badger 5. That unit only lasted three years before it started leaking. VERY disappointing!

So I got on Amazon, like you probably are right now, trying to find a solution. Well...you are DONE looking...just order this thing. It's true what you've been reading everywhere else, this unit is a 100% direct-replace for a Badger 5. The outlet and the dishwasher hose mounts are the exact same as that of the Badger in all respects.

I just now finished the install, and it was a piece of cake. Although this unit is made in China, the instructions were not written in the broken, cryptic language of instructions to some of the other products made there. The installation was clearly spelled out with great illustrations. A rookie could easily install this.

The mounting system that comes on this unit is FAR superior to the clamp that was on my old one. No tools are required to mount this to your sink bottom, and it installs with no need for plumber's putty (IF you have a stainless steel sink). If you're doing a replacement everything you need to install this is in the box. Out with the old and in with the new was a 15 minute job, and I could have probably done it in 5 if someone put a wager on it. :)

My wife and I were both impressed with how quiet this was, as we ground up a few miscellaneous food scraps. I like the fact that it's plastic and won't suffer the same corroded fate as the galvanized steel Badger which is now rightfully buried in my trash can.

For the price, free shipping, and easy installation, you can't beat this deal The 5-year warranty is nice too!

Customer Review: Inexpensive, quiet(er), easy to install.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for a new install on a Corian Double Sink. installation onto the sink couldn't have been easier - attach the mount first, a little plumbers putty, tighten it up, slide the disposal into place, twist the locking ring, done. 15 minutes, including removing the old drain. Unit comes with 3-prong plug pre-attached. You can also remove the plug to hardwire if you prefer/need. reset button right in the front. It is quiet, key components made of stainless steel, and lower priced than the ole' ISE badger. I ended up having to do some fun PVC plumbing to hook the drains back up, but I found that much easier than I thought it would be (first time doing PVC plumbing).

pros - won't rust like the badger because hammers, plate made of Stainless Steel. this should mean it will last longer. Much quieter than the badger, but loud enough that you know it's on. If you're looking for silent operation, this isn't it, but it's certainly more than quiet enough - you can hold a conversation with a normal voice. Chews through just about everything lickety-split. Easy to install. Doesn't take up too much room in the cabinet. Inexpensive. I could go on and on.

cons- plastic construction of many components, though the key ones are stainless steel. The drain ring (the part you can see from the sink) is a little cheesy in my opinion - nothing wrong with it functionally, but it say "Waste King" on it, and has a little Crown logo. I'd rather it said nothing at all, but I get it, they want people to look at it and get a little brand recognition.

If you need a sink disposal, or if you just don't like the one you have anymore, just go ahead and buy it already.

Customer Review: Concerning the L2600, one suggestion.
Summary: 4 Stars

Ordered my Waste King L2600 on Tuesday and it was delivered on Thursday. You can't beat that with a stick. The first thing I zeroed in on when I took it out of the box was the power cord. This thing was not intended to be easily removed, which was my intent since I don't have a switched outlet. My old disposal is hard-wired to a switch. First of all, the wire connections are crimped so you can't just back off a wire-nut and pull them apart. No biggy, you just cut the wires, but then comes that strain relief. The cord and the strain relief are molded together as a unit, the strain relief being a solid rubber plug that, when pushed into the hole in the housing can't be removed, which is as it should be. That's why it's there but if you want to remove that cord, then you've got a problem.

What I ended up doing was taking an Exacto knife and cutting away the inside "shoulder" portion of the strain relief to the point where I could muscle it back out thru the hole, using a small screwdriver as a prying tool. Once that was done it was just a matter of stripping the ends of the two wires on the unit in preparation for hooking them to the wires from the switch.

My suggestion: Make that cord an option and instead of installing it at the factory, put it in the box along with a couple of wire-nuts and some simple instructions for those who need them. A strain relief would be installed at the factory because that is a requirement regardless of which electrical hook up you go with - the cord to be plugged into a switched outlet or hard wired to a switch. It would have saved me about 30 minutes of futzing around removing that cord that came pre-installed.

Customer Review: Great Value
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall this garbage disposal is great for under $70. I have shopped around at Lowe's and Home Depot and the cheapest they had was about $!00 disposals that were not rated very well on the interent.

Ease of Installation: 5 stars
This very easy to install. The instructions had great illustrations and great descriptions. I never knew it was so easy to install a disposal.

Sound: 4 stars
I had a very noisy disposal before, so this rating may be a little high for people that had the expensive, quiet disposals. Let's just say it's not the noisiest disposal on the market right now. The one that I had and had to replace was the InSinkErator Badger 5XP 3/4 HP Household Food Waste Disposer It was noisier and costed more.

Performance: 4 stars
It does it's job and disposes of the food. One complaint I have about this is that the drain guard that comes with the disposal has a pretty tiny hole. This is the black rubber guard that you can pull out of the sink drain. When the water is running at full speed it doesn't drain as fast and begins to fill the sink. The small opening in the guard is probably for safety reasons and will probably open up over time, but it's not something I'm used to. It's easily replaceable with any other guard. I'm going to try it out for a few more months before I decide to replace it.

Warranty: 5 stars
5 stars for a 5 year warranty!! 5 years! Most garbage disposals under $100 only have a 2-year warranty.

Customer Review: Quiet, powerful, and easy to install
Summary: 5 Stars

Like a number of other reviewers, I also bought it to replace an InSinkErator Badger 5 that, after only 26 months (2 year warranty, of course!), started leaking like a sieve through the power connector on the bottom. I received it and installed it on the same day. I was a little leery of trying the adapter that was offered for sale with it since I thought it would lower the unit too much, and I might have plumbing problems. Since the old disposer had only been in for a little over two years, all of its hardware was easy to remove.

The new one went in as easy as the old one came out. I probably wouldn't have needed to use plumber's putty since I put it in a stainless sink (the included rubber gasket seemed adequate for the job), but since I would rather err on the side of caution and since I had some on hand, I used a small amount anyhow. I have had no leaks.

The dampener on this disposer is great! I was a bit concerned that it wouldn't hold up, but after installing it, looking it over well, and using it, I am impressed by the tightness of the fit and the quietness of the operation. The Badger would rattle the neighbor's dishes when it was on. This one can barely be heard in the next room! I love it!

Even though it's quiet, it's very powerful. I am yet to have it bog down under the heaviest of food grinding. I have no complaints about the product at all.

The only complaint I have is that the price has gone down by $15 since I bought it the end of May. Oh well, I had to have one, and I can't always wait to see if there's going to be a price drop.
