Tools and Hardware Reviews of Waste King L-2600 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste DisposerCustomer Review: Waste King L-2600 Legend Series 1/2 HP Waste Disposer Summary: 5 Stars
This is a well-made, powerful, and quiet grinding disposal. The installation instructions combines this model with EZ Mount with the one with a 3-both mount. This was my first time installing/replacing a GB so it took me extra time with the directions and all phases of installing.
Waste King indicates all Legend models come with an installed power cord with grounded plug. There are places in the instructions and on the box that indicate otherwise. But, in large red-on-yellow letters on the box, it does indicate the cord is included. And I am confirming that the cord DOES come pre-connected to the disposal unit.
My old disposal was hard wired and had a 3-bolt connection; took greater than average time to remove since being unfamiliar with the task. Then, I had to install a GFCI outlet in the wall for the plug. That was tricky and took some time since I had to be careful that no other plumbing or electrical wires were in the way, and it was uncomfortable working in a confined area underneath the sink. When cutting the hole, I had to make two adjustments before having all clear space. The man who invented the blue electrical outlet box with pop-up wings should have been given a golden reward!
Because of my inexperience here and adjusting the electrical, installation ended up being nearly an all-day job. However, what I know now, I could do another one is a few hours.
It was all worth it since now we have a great running disposal than has a 5-year warranty with in-home service. Highly recommend!
Customer Review: Great disposer, even better for the price. Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
- Eats everything we throw at it. No issues here.
- Pretty quiet. Not "whisper" quiet, but much better than the ~10 year old system it replaced. I can hold a conversation while it's running without yelling.
- The price. Half the cost of comparable makes.
Cons:
- Manual skips some steps. If you haven't done any under the sink repairs before, be prepared to spend some time filling in the gaps.
- Related to the above, the manual is less-than-clear on the steps it does include. Some parts can be installed a couple different ways and--with a few parts--I had to install, remove, reverse, and try again. Then again, the last time I repaired/installed a disposal was 10+ years ago. Your mileage may vary.
Note:
- The blades are higher than our previous model and the splash guard sits lower--leading to much less space between the rubber and the road. I typically use a wooden spoon to push stuff down -- I now have a dedicated wooden spoon for this job.
- Plug is a standard three-prong appliance plug. My previous disposal was hardwired into the junction box. Be prepared to either cut the plug off or install a GFI outlet under the sink.
Overall...with the exception of the manual, you won't find a better unit for the price. If you're looking for an ultra-quiet system, move up a model or two and corresponding price range.
Customer Review: Seems like a great unit but made in china Summary: 4 Stars
It works fine. Maybe a little quieter than the ISE unit it replaced (which corroded through and started leaking in just 10 years). Since ISE units have been (at least up until fairly recently) made in the US, I was hoping this would be a US made product. It's made in china. Seems like it has a lot more plastic than the ISE unit but since my problem was corrosion, I might be better off with more plastic. The warranty won me over and only 10 years before the ISE unit had holes in it did not inspire me to send Emerson Electric (who owns them) more money.
The holes for the dishwasher and drain exit are essentially in the same place as the ISE unit -- there were no issues of pipes not being where they needed to be. If your disposer is hard wired in (as mine is), it takes some effort to remove the cord/plug but it's straight forward.
The higher HP rating than comparable ISE unit is probably not worth anything since it appears to be achieved through a higher rotation speed instead of higher torque (which is really what muscles through your dinner waste). In any event, I cannot image what sort of waste this (or the 1/3 HP ISE unit) cannot handle.
Pros: Seems well made, less likely to corrode than the ISE unit, a little better balanced or better dampening (less vibration) than the ISE unit.
Cons: Made in china.
Customer Review: much much better than a badger! Summary: 4 Stars
As others have noted as well, I had a badger that was purchased from a big box store. I thought it was ok until it rusted out 2.5 yrs later. I saw the independent reviews of Waste King as a company and thought I would try them. I am not an online buyer, but the price and reviews are what got me over the hump to buy online. And I am sure glad I did!!!! This unit is hands down the best I have seen personally, and my badger is no longer "ok" as now i consider it a very loud unit. This unit is quiet, powerful, and smaller than I thought it was going to be. My wife is extremely happy with the unit as it has more of a spinning hum than a loud grinding noise. I did not order the adapter based on the reviews noted at Amazon. However, I wish I would have. The sink flange is polished stainless and is slightly different than my other sink. It is ok, but also as others noted, the quick connect lowered the drain by about 3/4 of an inch. Not much right,,, but enough to cause me a little bit of plumbing problems. At that time, I wish I would have bought the adapter. I guess I should have looked more closely at my setup before buying, but I am still very happy with the unit and had it installed for about a month now. I would recommend to my friends and family based on price, quiet, and quick delivery.
Customer Review: Great Product, Great Price, Easy Installation Summary: 5 Stars
Got this to replace my 12-year-old 1/3 HP ISE Badger 1. It fit without having to cut anything or get any additional parts. Installation took about 2.5 hours, broken down more or less as follows: find tools and remove old disposal and clean sink drain area (1 hour); connect end of hard-wired electrical wires to rubber grounded plug -- which I also got on Amazon -- Leviton 000-515CR-000 15 Amp Rubber Grounding Plug, Black (.5 hour); install new disposal (.5 hour); identify source of very small seepage leak in drain pipes -- not from outflow pipe that went in with the disposal, but from a joint on the other side of the U drain that got jostled a little in the installation and was probably a little loose to begin with, and find right tool to tighten (.5 hour). I recommend using vaseline or liquid dish detergent at the top of the disposal -- I used the detergent -- as recommended in the instructions to help get the disposal tightened properly. Also recommend -- as the instructions recommend -- familiarizing yourself with how the bottom rubber ring fits in the drain assembly before you try to install it for real under the sink. Disposal works great and is quieter than the one it replaced.
