Tools and Hardware Reviews of Waste King L-2600 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer

Customer Review: Best bang for the buck!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

this is my first ever review on Amazon so hopefully that in and of itself speaks volumes. Just installed it today and highly recommend it. don't buy the higher priced other brands. even the hdw store today when i went to get parts who also caries the Waste King, asked me why i would get it instead of his other brand. 5 year in home warranty put it over the top. the thing hums right along and was a bit louder than i'd have expected. still nowhere near as loud as my previous insinkerator. this is a small version of one of those machines that chews up tree branches. it can handle anything you throw at it, food-wise. keep it going to and don't have to wait to shove more down the sink.

ONLY reason this was given 4 stars is I had to go buy my own plumbers putty and you don't get an option to get a white sink flange so I had to go buy one of those.

It's really worth the time to install the EZ kit even if you currently have a 3 bolt system. you'll benefit later on if you have to replace this as by then it'll be a breeze!

Fyi, Menards has the white and biscuit sink flanges for this. They are marked as GE but they are the EZ mount assembly and only $14!!! just look for them by the disposals they stock.

Customer Review: Super Quiet, Easy install
Summary: 5 Stars

My Insinkerator Badger5 had decided to start leaking water through the bottom (coming out though the power cord connection!) and so I did some research on alternative disposals and thoguht I would try this one based on the reviews

I like the Wast King for:
Simple swap out for the Badger 5 unit (I could use the existing waste exit pipe fixture already cut to the right size)
Weight - It was significantly lighter than the Badger 5 making it so much easier to put in
Noice - What noise? I didn't realize how quiet a disposal could be. The difference to the Badger5 is night and day
Power cord included- I can understand I suppose you don't want an overly long cord under a sink, but why don't others supply power cords! This one fix perfectly for our installation.
Cons:
The only issue I have with the unit is that you do have to force the food into the chamber more. With the badger, it would sort of pull/suck stuff that was partly in, but with the waste king the entrance is a little more recessed and so requires a little more effort to get the scraps in.

I have no regrets with the choice so far. Let's see how it lasts now. The Badger 5 lasted 5 years with only mild use.

Customer Review: Works
Summary: 3 Stars

Replaced an old Insinknerator that had a cracked casing.

Pros:
-Quiet but I really don't think this is because of sound insulation, I think it is just a quiet motor with good bearings. (see cons below)
-Inexpensive
-If you are mechanically inclined enough to use a screwdriver and know how to read, you can install it yourself.
-Does what it's supposed to

Cons:
-The outside shell is only two pieces of flimsy plastic (one on top, one on bottom) that were screwed together to make the disposer look bigger than it actually is. I thought this L-2600 looked bigger than the L-1001 because of the sound insulation mentioned in the specs but either there is no real sound insulation or they forgot to put it in mine. There is just a whole lot of empty space in between the casing and the actual disposer itself. If they had made the casing to fit this disposer just right then it would look like the skinny Waste Maid 58. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for this. Basically they wasted my cabinet space just so that they could make it look more heavy duty. For some people this might not be a big deal but it just seems to be a little deceptive to me.

Customer Review: Great for the daily grind!

This product was a pleasant surprise in both installation and operation. Mine came with the EZ Mount System which turned out to be just that. If you follow the furnished instructions and you have even modest practical experience in general construction, electrical or mechanics, putting this in will not be a big deal. (I used the following tools - Philips Screwdriver, Flat Screwdriver, Pipe Wrench, Corded Drill (for mounting electrical outlet and switch). I used the following materials - Clear Silicone, Duplex Electrical Receptacle, Light Switch, Single Gang Boxes (2), length of 3 conductor power cable). I spent the most time removing the old sink drain and installing the switched outlet. Because it comes with a finished power cord and the EZ mount, removing this for repairs, unjamming or warranty purposes is very simple (2 minutes tops). The disposer is quiet in use and has a reasonably refined sound - not nearly as harsh as others I have heard over the years. It chewed through the food offerings of our presumably typical household without a complaint. This price point seems reasonable for a device that relieves one of scooping goop from the drain after every dishwashing session.

Customer Review: it's pretty decent and inexpensive too boot

The better known, all metal brands are $99 at minimum for 1/2HP models.

While this one uses plastic and rosin parts for the non-electrical components, this doesn't seem to lesson the performance vs. a vs. all metal models.

The American Made models should do the same thing to cut down on the price considering there is no loss in function using more molded parts.

Of course time will tell, but considering the low level of use, anything of greater durability is unnecessary.

I wanted the extra power and thus a step up from the intro 1/3HP models to ensure the food is more quickly and more thoroughly ground up before being sent down the pipe.

Using it infrequently does not mean I am more tolerant of clogs that lower HP models are more likely to cause. LOL

This model is the same as another model they have.

The difference is this comes with a plastic sound dampening shell, and so costs a few $ more.

That is the only negative. It doesn't dampen sound very efficiently. So I put in some extra stuff in between the shell and the actual disposal to make it a little quieter.
