Tools and Hardware Reviews of Waste King L-2600 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer

Customer Review: Pretty Awesome as Disposal's go
Summary: 5 Stars

The other great reviews helped me decide to purchase the waste king 2600. So far I am very happy with the purchase. We replaced a Badger 5 1/2 Horse Power disposal. We have had it installed for a few days and we are enjoying it. It is much quieter than the Badger.

I really liked the EZ Attachment that it comes with. It took about 30 minutes to install, that included taking the old one out. I didn't have to do any adjustments with my plumbing under the sink. We do not have a stainless steel sink so I made sure I had Plumbers Putty to do the install into the sink. So far I really like it and the price was awesome. I would recommend this brand of disposal to anyone that is replacing one or building their kitchen.

One thing that helped me was to go the the Waste King website and watch the installation video as well as when I got the product to make sure I understood exactly how the parts fit together. It recommends that in the manual and it's worth the time to make sure you know how it works above the sink rather than waiting until you are already under the sink.

Customer Review: Easily Installed, Works Great.
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this item based on its' favorable reviews to replace an In-Sinkerator that began to leak after 6 years of use. I wasn't unhappy with the In-sinkerator, but I purchased the Waste King because it was only a few dollars more than the poorly rated Badger 5 that came with the house, and it has a much better warranty.

The installation took a few minutes, after uninstalling the In-Sinkerator and its' mounting hardware. If you are looking at this product, I would assume you have a simple stainless steel sink as I do. In this case, you don't need to purchase any additional mounting supplies, or even plumbers putty. (In fact the manufacturer recommends against using putty).

The ease of installation almost had me second guessing myself as I refused to believe that it could be so simple. If you are considering a more expensive product, or the In-sinkerator, I would suggest that the power of this unit is more than sufficient, and with its ease of installation without extra trips to the hardware store... go for it!

Customer Review: Good unit, but
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this disposal a few days ago. Installed last night. everything runs fine. Since much already said, I won't mention them again. here are a few of my own opinions about the unit: First, not very quiet, if you are looking for a super quiet unit, this is not the one. Second, the installation is pretty simple, but a couple of minor points that Waste King should think about. 1) The unit come with a rubber gasket which is for steel sink only. Wish they provide a small rope of putty so that I don't have to buy a whole can from Home Depot (Cost me $3, and I only used 5% of it).
2) Unit come with a L shape discharge pipe which is for single bowl sink
only. I have to go to Home Depot again and buy a stright discharge pipe for my double bowl sink (cost me $2.95). Wish they provide this pipe with the unit.
Both of above are minor points, but Waste King knew all these installation issues (they are documented in the Owner's guide), I think Waste King should take care of these little things to make sure the installation process quick and easy.

Customer Review: Upgrade at discount price
Summary: 5 Stars

A certain leading consumer review rated the bigger versions -- the 3300 and the 5000 -- very well. I opted for the 2600 on the hope that this one would perform similarly and because I was concerned about the space available under the sink. The 3300 and 500 are each a little bigger, both height and width.

Install was relatively easy; about an hour including the removal of the KitchenAid disposer which preceded it. My sink is stainless, so I removed the entire mount (3-bolt) from the old one, and used the one which comes with this disposer in its place. Don't buy any extra mount bits or other accessories if you have a stainless steel sink! Ultimately, it was plug-n-play.

Price is unbeatable in comparison to the options available at the local home stores. It is no noisier than the old KitchenAid, but the sound is different... higher frequency, maybe, due to the higher blade speed. Not bad. Performance is fine, though I don't try to tax the disposer -- we do have a compost bin, after all. Overall, I am happy.

Customer Review: Replaced an older one
Summary: 5 Stars

My older one had the same number 2600 but the internal design was completely different. It was still working but it developed a leak in the rubber collar area after bumping it while fixing some else. It was time. It had the three screw sink drain retainer which you can still get but I choose the newer quick drain connector and I am glad I did. The main benefit is that the rubber finger insert is replaceable from the top without disassembly. The second reason is that it is very easy to install but it does require tightening at the sink connection several times to squeeze the plumbers putty out. The new one was completely interchangeable plumbing wise. The old one had a direct wire connection and I had to install an electrical outlet under the sink to plug the new one into. I just added a box to the end of the conduit and screwed it to the wall. It will make it easy for the next time I have to do it which will probably be never because the last one was over 20 years old and I am 75 now. A good product and the price was right.
