Customer Review: Pretty Good for My Purpose

I purchased the Waste King L-2600 garbage disposal to replace a non-functional older Waste King 2600 in my apartment. The older one must have been at least 20 years old, so I was surprised that this series was still available; however, the newer unit has much better sound insulation. I don't even need to use the included noise cap to contain the sound.
The reason why I decided to take care of the problem myself, rather than asking my landlord to do it, is because the cost was so reasonable (i.e., about $80), and I wanted to experience what it was like to replace a garbage disposal myself for the first time. Actually, it was very easy, and you don't even need to use plumber's putty, assuming that you have a stainless steel kitchen sink.
It has now been over four months since I installed this garbage disposal, and so far it has been functioning great. I would probably recommend a more heavy duty unit for a larger household, but for just an apartment this unit seems about ideal.

After reading all reviews before purchase, I found more positive then negative and so made the purchase. After purchase, I didn't install it right away as it was going in new construction not a replacement so it set under my sink for about a year before I decided to go ahead and plumb it in.
Here is what I've found so far since I installed it.
1. It's quiet, very quiet as for as I'm concerned unlike other negative reports stated, no ear plugs needed, my girlfriend even stated it was quieter then the one at her house.
2. It doesn't leak, unlike other negative reports stated, I tend to question their install capability.
3. No drainage problems as once again as one other had stated in his review his held water in the sink, mine drains normally.
4. It fits under the sink just prefect, doesn't take up much room at all
5. Seems constructed very well.
6. Performs as expected and to my satisfaction.
7. Works like a charm, well worth the purchase.

OK I believe the Ge disposalls are/were built by waste king. I bought a GE unit 5 years ago. I just installed this one as a replacement knowing that it would be easy to install and good quality. During the install, I realized by GE unit just had a tripped breaker (little red button at the bottom) and once I cleared a few popcorn kernals it started working like a champ. I didnt really want to $$ pay to send the new one back so I installed anyway.
The price of this one with the 5 year in home warranty and lifetime corrosion warranty cannot be beat. My old GE was not corroded at all. I had an insinkerator in hand at the local home improvement store but was worried that the 5 unit would eventually crack as amazon reviewers are complaining about. Plus it only had a 1 year warranty.
It gets the job done so whats the problem? The insinkerators are made in USA. This waste king is made in China. My old GE was made in USA..On second though maybe I shouldnt get rid of the GE unit.

I rec'd this and installed it. It was a pain in the neck to install. Amazon or Waste King did not include the 3 mount installation ring. It looked like my disposer that I rec'd from Amazon had been opened and possibly used. I finally got it installed using the "EZ method". I had to call my plumber friend to come over and help. I did not want to install it with the EZ method, but had no choice because the other bracket was not included. My plumber friend had it installed in about 10 mins.
For the good, it's very quiet compared to the GE model before it, but does not seem as sturdy in place. Also, this comes with a 3 prong plug, so I had to install a receptacle. I guess you could still hard wire it, but then you have the redundant plug hanging out. Overall, I thought the instructions were poorly written as well. I would not buy this again if given a choice. My plumber friend showed me a Badger that he had that looked much better and an easier and safer 3 mount install.

I recently purchased this to replace a Badger installed in my house when new back in 2003. This disposal is more powerful, quiter, and takes up less space under the sink.
The all stainless grinder is nice as the Badger was very corroded which seemed to affect grinding ability. Also the Badger would plug the drain occasionally which hasn't happened with this one in similar circumstances. The Waste Kings in home replacement warranty is longer than the Badger as well.
Installation was a snap. My badger was hard wired so I just added a surface mount outlet under the sink using the old wiring. Now subsequent replacements will be simple by just plugging in a new unit.
One small gripe is that they could include a small amount of plumbers putty along with the stainless steel sink gasket. I now have 100 year supply of putty, even though it was only 89 cents.
Amazon's price was below the cheapest badger, and delivery was excellent even during the Christmas rush
