Tools and Hardware Reviews of Waste King L-8000 Legend Series 1.0-Horsepower Continuous Feed Waste DisposerCustomer Review: Have to do better Summary: 3 Stars
This review is in the middle (3 stars) because we had it shipped 2 day FedEx and the part had been dropped "BEFORE" it was packed. I'm self-employed and also do the shipping for my company. It was clear that FedEx did not drop the box because there were no "crush marks" inside or outside the box. We did receive a refund but the hassle of not having a kitchen sink drain for 2 more days forced me to buy a local Sears unit at $84 more than the Waste King. Since it arrived damaged I can't tell you how well it works but I can comment on the Sears 1HP disposal. It rocks and is very quite. I was not impressed with the cheap plastic casing of the Waste King and feel the Sears unit was superior in finish (Like anyone will really say, "Dang, that's a very good looking disposal" but at resale time for the house it will me something having a 10 year warranty. BTW, The box was not packed properly either. The waste king box was should have been packed in foam corn and not some loose rolled up paper. You have got to do better than that.
Customer Review: Waste King L-8000 Summary: 5 Stars
I was tired of replacing Badger 5 disposers, 3 in 11 years. I chose the L-8000 after reading the reviews and have not been disappointed. I found a "used" unit at a substantial saving; it actually should have been marked "Open Box". All mounting hardware was still in its original packaging and there was no sign that the disposer had ever been used. It arrived less than 24 hours after I placed the order and took less than 30 minutes to install however it is heavy, and awkward to maneuver into place; I used a pile of books to support it in position until I could attach it.
Before I made a final decision I contacted the manufacturer, Anaheim Industries (800-854-3229)to ask about the pros and cons of their other models. Their representative was very knowledgeable and informative. She answered all of my questions promptly without trying to rush to the next call.
This disposer is powerful, fairly quiet, and certainly far superior to other disposers that I have had.I highly recommend it
Customer Review: Much louder than the cheapest units Summary: 1 Stars
It's much noiser than the Badger 5 it replaced. (Consumer Reports found the Badger 5 unacceptably noisy.) The rater who found "normal conversation level" possible with just the motor running (no water) couldn't do that; when it's grinding, he'd have to shout. It was installed by an experienced plumber, not DIY. It does the job well; but it's unacceptably loud. Vibrations are felt all along the counter when it is running. Waste-King will send a local repairman and if IN HIS OPINION it's too loud, replace the unit. If he thinks the level is normal--with no standard except his subjective opinion--I must pay $90 for the "service call." Waste-King will not cover that. The tech said there's no point in him coming; 8000's are the noisiest units sold for home use.
I've already paid to install it; to return it to Amazon I'd have to pay to uninstall it (plus shipping). I'm stuck with it. Find an installed unit and listen to it before purchase. You'll want to leave the kitchen when it's in use.
Customer Review: Good buy Summary: 4 Stars
Since I am installing a new kitchen, I haven't installed the disposer yet, so I can't comment on it's performance. The unit was packaged well so there was not shipping damage. It arrived promptly (free shipping), so that alone is a plus. The unit looks well made, but will only know how well when I install it. With a lifetime warranty, though, really can't go wrong. The only negative comment I have regarding the disposer and it is not directed at the unit itself or Amazon, is that I needed a bronze colored mounting flange to match my faucet. It cost me almost $100.00 (flange, stopper and shipping). I don't think it should cost so much, but I needed it. Would have been nice if waste king made reasonably priced mounting flanges that matched more finishes for faucets on the market now.
Update 10.21.2010: Just installed the unit. The installation was not difficult and the instructions were very comprehensive. No problems and it works great. Good buy.
Customer Review: So far so good! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this after our ISE Badger quit (seems like that has happened to a lot of people on here..). I went with this particular one because of the fantastic reviews, the 2009 consumer reports, and the fact that the cost was significantly less with a spectacular warranty.
It shipped and arrived the next day, and was extremely easy to install. I actually took the opportunity to replace my entire sink, and was surprised at how easy this part of the job was. I'm still left with thinking i MUST have done something wrong for it to go so smoothly because I am NOT a handy person.
From other reviewers I was concerned at how much noise it would put out, but from the second I turned it on, I couldn't believe how much quieter it was than my badger. It's an extremely quiet machine. I was eager to feed it chicken wings we had from dinner and it took them without a problem. In fact I was a little surprised it didn't even put up a fight with them.
