Customer Review: OK, but very pricey

I have a Whirlpool side by side. They could give them away for free and just charge for the repairs and do OK. The fridge is four years old and has had the ice maker replaced (an extremely poorly designed gear), and also had to have a new main circuit board (a short circuit due to faulty board design). Add to the high cost of the parts the rich cost of the service man. Yikes - those two items came to close to the price of the fridge.
Then there is the Official Water Filter Profit Center! Amazing how they design these filters so the whole filter, not just the internals, has to be replaced. The water here is very good but the filter light goes off in about six months. Now I ignore the light for months.
A buck a week for replacement filters is intolerable.
Another Official Profit Center: The water filter pricing reminds me of the "bargain" range hood filters that need frequent replacement at $30 to $50 a pop. Better to get the hood with a washable filter!
I bet our Asian friends are taking notes of customer comments like this one. I prefer to buy American but not when I get the short end of the stick repeatedly.
Money doesn't grow on trees, appliance people.
