Tools and Hardware Reviews of Wayne Water Systems VIP50 1/2 HP 2,500 GPH Submersible Utility Water PumpCustomer Review: GREAT QUALITY PUMP FOR A GREAT PRICE! Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased to remove 2500Gal. 4FT deep above ground swimming pool via a 150FT hose to the street which took a few hours (4+), so the 2500GPH rating is probably effected by the depth of the water as well as the hose size and length. Left almost no water at the bottom. Same with a neighbors much larger 5FT deep above ground pool which took a a couple of hours longer.
Also used with a 16FT.hose for emptying a 75gal fish tank within minutes directly out a basement window to the garden for the great nutrients and to save water as well as saving a back breaking job of using buckets and containers. I recommend pushing any substrate (gravel/rocks) to one side of the tank or remove to prevent possible damage to the unit.
Also great by the pool-side at the bottom of a large container of sun-warmed water for rinsing off after swimming using a 4FT hose with a garden sprayer attachment set on the shower setting which provides a slightly lower flow than an in-home shower of which can also be controlled (on/off) with sprayer handle.
Just a few of many uses.
Very satisfied since purchasing almost 2 years ago and still remains at the same price which is pleasantly surprising, therefore, I would suggest purchasing asap before the price goes up...even at an increased price, it would still be well worth the investment for such a high quality product!!!
Customer Review: Excellent for draining cellar and driveway Summary: 5 Stars
We get occasional cellar flooding and frequent driveway flooding - that turns to ice. We decided to buy a full set of dewatering tools to avoid damage and an icy driveway. Of the three pumps we tried this is by far the best: easy startup, strong flow, handles dirt and debris well. If the pump runs dry it shuts off automatically and must cool down before restarting. We bought two for primary use and a third for backup.
I recommend additional items if you will be using the pump frequently: a bunch of brass quick attach connectors (because trying to screw on hoses in the dark and rain is a pain)Nelson 50336 Brass Hose Quick Connectors Set, Male and Female, a long high-quality, non-kinking hose Gilmour 20-58100 20 Series Platinum 5/8-Inch-by-100-Foot 8-Ply Flexogen Hose, Platinum, a high-quality hose reel
I saw some criticism of this pump for it's inability to lift water (e.g. For fire suppression). This pump is not designed to raise water more than 20 feet and 10 may be it's practical limit. For lifting or throwing water under high pressure you will need a much more expensive option
Customer Review: Do not get if you plan on using a garden hose Summary: 1 Stars
Do not plan on using this with a garden hose. It pumps like crazy - right until you hook up a hose. Then - ZERO FLOW. That's right, nothing. I could not get this to pump at all with a garden hose attached for an output. I bought this because I used a friend's Little Giant 1/6 HP pump (with a hose) and wanted something a little faster. The Wayne will be returned.
With the hose adapter in place and no hose on it, it will hit the ceiling. Put a hose on and turn it on and nothing happens. Well something happens - your basement gets wet and all your stuff gets ruined while you try to figure out why a pump you just bought won't work. Maybe it has something to do with fluid dynamics that I don't understand, but I know I hooked the LG up to the same hose and pumped about 400 GPH. I was hoping for 600 with this until I got a better setup. Now, I am just returning and getting a LG. Seems easier than getting a hydraulics degree.
If I wanted to hard plumb a pump in, I would get a real sump pump. A "submersible utility pump" should be able to be utilitarian enough to be portable and use a garden hose. Do yourself a favor and get a LG.
Customer Review: The pump is GREAT, the Little Giant discharge kit isn't Summary: 5 Stars
Hi, I am almost always very pleased with Amazon. This time, I was far more than pleased. I ordered this with Free Shipping and I had it in 3 days. The Wayne Water Systems VIP50 1/2 HP 2,500 GPH Submersible Utility Water Pump is perfect for what I needed. I have an in ground swimming pool and I wanted to drain it. It's about 22 thousand gallons. It is whisper quiet and pumps up 10 feet and out 100 with a great flow rate. The Little Giant hose kit (separate) is pretty cheap plastic that is hard to keep unrolled, but it did serve it's purpose. I actually hooked that together with my pool vacuum hose to get plenty of length and the pump had no problems. The pump is a Great item at a great price. Don't expect much from the hose, but it does pass a lot more water than a garden hose would. I was surprised at how small the pump is, looks bigger in the pictures, but it puts out like it is huge!
Customer Review: Excellent transfer pump Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to re-fill my pond from a nearby creek. Initially, I would only use it for a few hours at a time for fear of overheating. However, I've had it on continuously for over a month now and it is still going (I'm using it as a sort of supplementary inflow for the pond). It has never clogged and puts out a steady stream of water through a garden hose about 100 feet long (with a little less force than you would get from your house). It's really quite amazing and certainly worth the price.
Update (7/30/10):
It's been over 2 years now and the thing still works great. I have it run continuously for several months each summer to transfer water from my creek to my pond. I couldn't give a higher recommendation.
